Mythic Magazine #20

Hello Mythicists! I hope all is going well. It's really hot where I am, and getting hotter. I think it's best to just stay inside, run the air conditioner, and play role-playing games.

Welcome to issue #20! This issue contains:

Jorge knocked it out of the park once again with yet another great cover. I had asked him to either make an image of a creature emerging from a TV monitor (for the Turn Any Show ... article) or to make an image of an epic final battle (for the Conclusive article). As usual, he had better ideas, because he did both in one!

The Conclusive Adventure Conclusions article contains a reworked version of The Horror Track from the previous issue. I had enough conversations with people online that boiled down to "I like it, this could work for other things too ..." that I had to agree. The Thread Progress Track is a more general purpose version of The Horror Track. I think it lets you play Mythic like you normally would, but with just enough intrusion to make sure your main Thread heads toward a decisive finish.

Happy adventuring everyone! :)

I'm glad you like it :) I agree, I think it could be used for modules. It's almost an update of the method from Issue #3, which is more general. The conversion strategy in #20 is pretty much the solo adventure framework from #11 aimed at existing media.

Another idea I had recently was to convert Songs into adventures. Some songs seem like a premise which is not resolved. So what better todo as to play through it with Mythic ;).

I love the conversion chapter and think a lot of it can be used to convert existing prewritten modules.

FYI: I updated the file today, Aug. 5, to fix an error on page 13 in the example.

Tana Pigeon

Just a heads up, I fixed an error (thanks samber!) and replaced the file with a new one.

Ohhh, good catch. That is an error. An earlier draft of the Thread Progress Track had a concept for Support, similar to the Horror Track's Protection. However, I decided to remove it because it wasn't necessary. I wanted this system to be slimmer and more all-purpose so it could be slotted into any narrative, so making assumptions about something like Support got in the way. I'll fix that and post a new file. Thank you!

I am absolutely loving this issue so far. I have a question though. Under the subsection "The Thread Progress Track" on p. 10, you say that you get Progress Points by achieving Progress, Support, and Crux events. But I can't find anything in the rest of the article about "Support." What is this referring to? Sorry if I'm missing something :)
