The image above will be the cover art for Mythic Magazine Compilation #3, which should be coming out in the next 4 weeks or so.
The artist, the ever wonderful Jorge Munoz, composited this cover as an homage to one of his favorite comic book covers, Love And Rockets 1.
As with the covers on the previous Compilations, this one incorporates elements from the 6 issues included. Compilation 3 covers issues #13-18. Each of these usual suspects is featured on those covers.
When I looked at this, I smiled as I recognized each of the figures, until I got to the guy in the back, second from the right. I thought, who is that? I had to take a closer look at the cover of Issue #15 to realize he is the figure in the foreground whom we only see from behind in shadow. I'm glad he took a break from opening portals in time to stand for a photo with the others!
I especially like the figure on the right, the lich from the cover of issue 13. That one is cool for me because I had asked Jorge to recreate the cover of The Creature Crafter, but in his style. I wish, back in 2009, that I had commissioned Jorge to do the art for the cover. I made the cover myself and, consequently, I think it just doesn't work. I was still figuring out a lot back then about how to make and publish my own RPG books. While I continue to learn these days, and hopefully improve, it makes me feel good that this particular cover helps make up for that earlier attempt.
