Preview: 2e Fate Chart

Hello Tier 3 people, I have a preview for you!

This is currently how the revised Fate Chart looks in the new Mythic GME 2e rules. Like most of the 2e rules, I tried to make the chart simpler and more streamlined.

It's interesting to me that with the variant versions of the Fate Chart ... the Fate Check and the Mythic Deck ... they attempted to match the general odds from the original Fate Chart while providing an easier way to use it. Now we've come full circle, where before the Fate Chart influenced those tools, those tools are now influencing the Fate Chart with this new one more closely matching the approach of the Fate Check and the Deck.

I've also reversed the direction of the values, with higher values going left to right, and down to up, which I think makes more intuitive sense.

This chart may change before the final book comes out, but I give this to you for your consumption and thoughts.

Happy adventuring!

I've been wanting to do soe solo gaming on my stream, but playing solo seems more daunting than having a friend or two. It seems like this graph would work well with a crunchy system like BRP or Runequest. Has anyone tried using D100 type games with this?

Bryan Brake

I'm glad to hear you say that :) I know some people wondered if the checks from Variations II would basically become the 2nd edition. However, Variations II was meant to offer a crunchier, more detailed, variant version of Mythic. Variations II will still stand up with 2nd edition, and a version of the Fate Check is in the 2nd edition rules for those who don't want to use a chart, but yes, the chart remains.

Hello! I can only say one thing: Yay! This chart removes many of my fears about 2E. I was always worried the chart would be removed in favour of the check, which I would have considered a big loss. And I see that you still use the full range of the CF. This image really, really has made me happy. Yours, Deathworks

The negative numbers (and positive values over 99) are there to explain the calculation for the Exceptional result, since although you can't roll a -15% that -15 still impacts the Exceptional No value of 78.

Tana Pigeon

Yes, it's been in development for a little more than a year.

Tana Pigeon

How does someone roll -15? I'm not aware of any modifiers to the D% roll. Might they not also be represented as X (like the unobtainable extreme yes/no)? (Or maybe 0 instead of X?)

Wait you're releasing a 2e of the GME
