Random Event
Added 2021-09-10 00:11:53 +0000 UTCHello Tier 3 people, I have a Random Event for you that may seem a little odd. It's about monsters.
The Creature Crafter holds a special place in my heart as the first book in the Crafter series and my first foray outside of Mythic material. It is also my least popular book.
Although I have plenty of projects in the current pipeline, I am considering somewhere down the line revisiting The Creature Crafter. I'm curious what your thoughts are about it so I'm posing this as a poll for the various things I am considering for this book. With Mythic Magazines coming out every month and Mythic Second Edition being worked on, it's not like I'm going to get to a new Creature Crafter any time soon, but it's on my mind and I'm curious what you think.
So, here we go :)
What should I do about a future Creature Crafter ... (feel free to vote for more than one option)

I'm glad to hear you're getting good usage out of it! You're definitely using it the way I had in mind. Yes, the special powers table can use some spicing up. Also, I think the definitions for the monster types and the innate powers that go with them can be simplified, that portion feels too fiddly to me.

2021-09-10 16:46:07 +0000 UTCI agree with you on all of that. When I wrote Creature Crafter I hadn't yet found my stride where the tone and balance should be with both Mythic and Crafter material, and no book shows that more clearly than The Creature Crafter. I still think it's a good idea, and I think the book has a lot to offer, but it is not elegant and it could be a lot better.

2021-09-10 16:42:24 +0000 UTCCan I be greedy. I wonder if its possible to have creature crafter streamlined a bit but alos have an 'express' version. I like normalised distribution tables so for the most part I like the idea of estimating baseline stuff (e.g. how many mooks, how strong, any sepcial abilities) and then rolling to see if I was right or if these characterisitcs need modified a bit for a bit of randomness or the odd unexpected special abiliy- although with normal distribution likely to be close to my iitial estimate. However sometimes I want to make something from scratch or spend more time on a special creature which requires more effort. Hope that makes sense. Thanks Tana

2021-09-10 15:29:42 +0000 UTCI like the idea of the Encounter Crafter a lot. If the book had both that would be excellent and I'd repurchase it. I'd love if I could both reach for it to create a singular creature that isn't tied to an encounter or if I need the whole encounter. And non-creature encounters also would be incredibly useful.

2021-09-10 13:27:43 +0000 UTCI agree, theres a lot of things that the mythic family of content can generate and NPCs and creatures has been done quite thoroughly and randomly with this crafter book.

2021-09-10 08:51:38 +0000 UTCHonestly, i think its perfect the way it is. Its usage allows you to generate something from scratch without putting ANY thought into what this NPC will be. If a solo adventurist is using this books tables with thoughts in mind for stats/concepts/traits/powers then they need to skip rolling for that and just ask the fate chart or modify those attributes by the %'s provided. The tables cross referencing each other are brilliant when referring to descriptions. The ONLY thing i would change is the special powers list is a little bland, like "climbing" makes sense, but lacks any fear or awe factor. Id say revising it with new art and some updated lists is all that should happen to it. I get a LOT of usage out of it as a DM on a DAILY basis.

2021-09-10 08:49:02 +0000 UTCHello, Indeed, I consider it the least useful of the crafters for myself. This is mainly because it is the one that is the least innovative and because of the way the stats are determined. The least innovative, because mostly, it is a collection of random tables you find with other creators as well. The stats turned out to be a problem, because already established facts/tendencies weighed in too weakly into the math. I had a monster established as having a high attribute/trait, and the crafter told me that the trait was extremely weak (and yes, I rolled, because I wanted to allow some leeway about whether it is phenomenal or just above average). I really recommend trying to make it as flexible and adaptive as Mythic and the others as that is really your strength. Yours, Deathworks

2021-09-10 01:22:16 +0000 UTCI'm leaning toward option 4 myself. I think, as it stands right now, it's my weakest product in a number of ways. However, an Encounter Crafter book that includes everything someone might want for random encounters would not only make for a better Creature Crafter but would be a more useful book all around.

2021-09-10 01:19:45 +0000 UTCThis is also the only Emulator/Crafter product that I don't own, but I voted for both the 3rd and 4th options. The reason I did so, to be honest, is because both of those options would definitely make the product more enticing for me to buy. As it is, I still plan on purchasing it at some point, either way, given the quality of the content of your other products.

2021-09-10 00:43:24 +0000 UTCMaybe be incorporated in a exclusive chapter of the next edition Mythic Complete book.

2021-09-10 00:34:32 +0000 UTCI don't own it so I can't offer critique on it's current state. I'm much more interested in Mythic's next edition, but I would reconsider this if it has a 2nd edition too
