Added 2021-08-23 18:06:34 +0000 UTCGreetings everyone! Mythic Magazine #9 is coming along nicely. One of the articles chosen through the Tier 3 poll was another way to generate NPC social interactions. This article went a slightly different way than I expected and is encompassing another approach to NPC behavior generation. I shouldn't say "another" approach really, since it's a refinement on the default approach presented in the core Mythic books.
I'm happy about this because it is incorporating aspects of the upcoming Mythic Second Edition. Since I am making Mythic Magazines at the same time that I'm working on the Second Edition, I'm finding those ideas creeping into the magazine articles. This is good for two reasons: it's helping me develop those ideas for Second Edition, and it's already building compatibility with the new edition even before it comes out.
Some people have expressed concern that once Mythic Second Edition comes out, will it still work with the available tools like the Mythic Deck and the Variations books. The answer is yes. If anything, it makes everything already available more compatible since it's tying most of it together.
One of the new bits that will be in Mythic GME Second Edition is an expansion of the Meaning Tables. The current Mythic GME book has one set of Meaning Tables, and Mythic Variations II expanded that into two tables for Actions and Descriptions. Mythic Second Edition will add a third set of tables, Elements. Elements Meaning Tables will actually be many tables, all focused on a specific element within an Adventure. The purpose of it is to allow you to roll on a Meaning Table for something more specific than a general Action or Description.
The behavior rules in the upcoming magazine make use of this with what amounts to Behavior Element Meaning Tables, which are Meaning Tables specific to NPC behavior.
You'll find a lot of commonality with the Element Meaning Tables since they use the same words from the Action and Description Meaning Tables, except cut down to the words that fit most appropriately into those Element categories. The end result are Meaning Tables that still give you the same wide range as the previous tables, but also focused so your result is more likely to be appropriate to what you're looking for.

Thanks James, so am I! I'm probably just as excited, if not more so, than I was when the original book came out. I hope everyone likes it.

2021-08-25 20:48:38 +0000 UTCI'm a couple issues behind on reading the magazine, but I'm very excited by this update. As someone who has read all the various Mythic and Crafter books so far, and owns both the Mythic and AC decks, I cannot wait for the cohesion you are bringing with 2e!

2021-08-24 06:58:13 +0000 UTCHi James. I'm glad you like it :) The deck is my go-to as well. That uses both of the current Meaning Tables, Action and Description. The Subject/Action word pairs at the top of the cards that go with Random Events are the Action Meaning Tables, and the ones in the middle of the card are the Description Meaning Tables.

2021-08-23 21:32:24 +0000 UTCYou mention the Deck, which I love and use exclusively now. Which description tables did you use to build that?
