Mythic Magazine #7 content poll

Greetings Tier 3 people! It's time for you to wield your influence and choose what will be the top article in Mythic Magazine #7!

You all did a fine job with issue #6 choosing Mystery Adventures. The demand for that surprised me.

Below are 10 ideas for you to choose from. Vote for as many as you like, but please limit your votes to what you truly think should be the winners.

Let the battle begin!

Hi James. In regards to factors like you mention that should count toward an NPC's reaction, you can try and incorporate that into the system as modifiers. However, I think maybe a more elegant solution is to remember that you are interpreting the results of the Behavior Check system in a Context, and that Context includes things like failed/successful social skill rolls and previous relationships. I try to let those kind of factors influence my interpretation heavily. For instance, if you get some high rolls on a reaction that implies an NPC may attack your PC, yet they are friends or have a history and that seems illogical, then this Context would make me interpret this to mean perhaps the NPC gets angry instead of attacking, or is visibly frustrated but says nothing. Similarly, a successful social skill roll may mean that instead of attacking the NPC offers your PC a chance to end the encounter peacefully because maybe you said something to him that makes sense. You have a huge degree of latitude in your interpretation of the results, so letting those factors you mention weigh in heavily goes a long way to making everything work smoothly.

Seeding an Adventure before you begin is a clear winner here. I'm working on that article, as well as a Starship random location generator.

Hi Tana. Something I've struggled with is integrating 'social' stats from RPG systems into Mythic's Behaviour Check system. I really like the naturalistic social scenes that can flow from this system but I struggle to know what to do if I have an advantage because, say, I have a high 'charisma' or an 'initimidate' skill. Of course I can boil these down to a succeed/fail roll at some point but everytime I've tried it seems a bit arbritrary and anticlimactic. Also setting initial disposition I think sometimes is a bit more nuanced. For example what if there is already a relationship between NPC & PC that influences the disposition? Or if the NPC has some attraction to or sympathy for the PC (even though this may not have a direct bearing on their personality). Basically the PCs influence on the NPCs behaviour above and beyond what they actually say/do . I might have missed something and this may have been addressed elsewhere but I just voice it as a possible topic. Regardless, thanks for keeping these coming Tana. They have really upped my solo RPG experiences!
