Progress Journal Feb. 5, 2021
Added 2021-02-06 00:20:47 +0000 UTCGreetings everyone! This is a minor progress update, more to tell you about future plans.
As many of you know, I've been giving a lot of thought lately about how to revamp the Mythic books and bring them into 2021. This led to the idea for Mythic Complete, which is moving along.
The idea behind Mythic Complete is to have a new, fresh book that incorporates all the Mythic books into one volume. I'm thinking though that in addition to this I should also create a fresh version of the Mythic GME.
Back when I first published the red and blue books, the blue book was meant to be a slimmer, cheaper book that just focused on the emulation part of Mythic. That's what most people wanted. I want to keep that same dynamic today: having a big main book, and a smaller emulator-only book.
So, in addition to Mythic Complete I'm also going to make Mythic Game Master Emulator Revised. Mythic GME Revised will be the same book as the original, but with new layout and new artwork. It's getting a fresh coat of paint. There may be some minor text changes throughout the book, but nothing major.
When both books are done, the core Mythic books will consist of Mythic Complete replacing the original red Mythic book and Mythic GME Revised replacing the original blue book.
Since Mythic GME Revised will be the easier book to make it'll likely come out first, although I'll be working on both books at the same time.
Both books will have a similar look, using the same layout style I'm using in Mythic Magazine and The Adventure Crafter. I'm trying to establish a more consistent look in my books as well, so this should help.
I'm glad I have Mythic Magazine coming out each month. One of the things that made me hold off so long on redoing the core Mythic books was I didn't want to spend so much time on putting out new versions of old books. With Mythic Magazine I have new content coming out each month which frees me up to make some of the older content look better.
I can't tell you how much relief it gives me to know I'm finally giving Mythic a facelift! For some people it may seem strange that I put so much priority in recreating books that are already out there and are successful. Why not focus on new books? There are various reasons why I am so committed to redoing the books, but maybe the top reason is I just feel Mythic deserves the respect of the best looking book it can be. In 2003 I thought Mythic deserved to go from being a loose bunch of notes in a folder to being an actual book. Today, I feel that same urge to bump it up again and give it a nicer place to live in.
Hopefully fans of Mythic will like the new looks. I'm purposefully trying not to put too much new stuff into Mythic Complete because I don't want anyone who already owns Mythic to feel they MUST buy the new book. It'll be there if you simply want a new look to it, but if you already have Mythic and are happy you aren't missing much else. For those new to it they'll benefit from being introduced to the updated version.
