Progress Journal 12-11-20
Added 2020-12-11 19:22:46 +0000 UTCGreetings everyone, I hope your Decembers are moving along nicely and safely.
Work on Mythic Complete has begun, I'm excited to say :) Once again, the fabulous Jorge Munoz will be doing the artwork for this book. I've got him commissioned for 51 color images. The book will be full color throughout.
Right now, I'm envisioning it being available as a PDF, hardcover print, and softcover print. I'm expecting the final book to clock in at somewhere around 250 pages.
I'm happy to finally be working on a new version of Mythic. I've long been dissatisfied with how Mythic looks, but I've been unable to do anything about it until now.
If you have any questions about what will be in the book, please feel free to ask in the comments below.
For a part of me, it feels strange to be producing a new Mythic volume. Way back, 17 years ago, I didn't expect anyone to be interested in Mythic. I only made the first book because I wanted a copy for myself to put on the shelf. Here we are years later, and not only is Mythic still going strong but its ideas are starting to percolate throughout the RPG industry. I see more and more games produced with sections devoted to solo rules, and those rules are almost always some variant of Mythic. The concept of a RPG oracle started with Mythic, taking us beyond the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure model or the pile of random tables.
When I look at all the activity that's gone on over the years, and all the great ideas that have evolved, I'm just really happy. I feel like my part in all of this is quite small. I produced a book with an idea. The RPG community embraced that idea and ran with it, taking it to new and amazing places.
I feel this has come full circle. I made the original Mythic book because I thought the system deserved the respect of a book treatment. Here we are now, years later, and I feel Mythic deserves the respect of a better, fresher book treatment. That's all thanks to you, the community, who are the ones who breath life into Mythic and oracle role-playing.
I don't like stating expected publishing dates for projects because I so often blow past them, so I will just say the book is in production. Since most of the content will be taken from the already published books and lightly edited, there is little work to be done in the content side of things; most of the work will be in the presentation. That means this project should move a lot faster than something like The Adventure Crafter.
I'll keep you all posted here in how it's going!

2020-12-11 22:34:14 +0000 UTC"...the more you put in it the more it elevates your adventures and pleasure!" I like that, and I completely agree. Also, yes, it can be a heavy beast and a partner. It's interesting how playing solo puts you in touch with ... something. It's difficult to put my finger on, but I don't feel alone when I play solo.
