August Progress Report

Not everyone has time to trawl the Discord, so here's a quick overview of last month's work on miniBoss! This list will be streamlined with little additional commentary. A condensed info dump, if you will!

Story

The story of miniBoss is coming along nicely! We have the first two days of the game in second draft form. The first day and a half of this will be on display in its near-final form when we release our first playable demo. As for the other five days, their broad story strokes are planned, but we have yet to write dialogue for them. That'll come as we move through the week, completing each day in sequence leading up the last!

On the programming front, Ryhn has been hard at work expanding the storytelling framework for miniBoss! He's added support for multiple background layers so we can do some fancy parallax and foreground/background animations as warranted, along with updating our character system to allow for even more animations and varied character sizes. Also, our sound system has been updated to allow dynamically mixing multiple tracks to fade in and out as the story demands. Ryhn's now working on an update to the dialogue system which allows up to five characters to discuss with one another on screen at once. We'll likely only need 2-3 at a time in general, but the flexibility will come in handy for major scenes with a lot of characters involved.

We'll have more to say on this front soon, and once the dialogue system has come together we'll update all of you with some fun gifs of it in action!
