Reacting to the Young Royals Season 1 FINALE

Comments

THIS THIS THIS!! ALL OF THIS!!! I agree with every word!!

Leigh Stigler

The contrast between Simon's and Wilhelm's lives shown in the latter part of this episode always hurts so much. Simon there with his family and friends, playing games and laughing together, while Wilhelm is forced to face the nation all on his own, at sixteen, and make the choice between coming out to the nation when he probably doesn't even have a word for his sexuality yet, and knowing the amount of public scrutiny and attention that would follow that decision, or doing what his mother suggests and kind of making it go away, but fucking up this new relationship that is so important to him. Like, his life has already completely changed just a few weeks ago with the death of his brother and him becoming crown prince, which would already increase the amount of public scrutiny he has to deal with forever, and set a completely different course for his life. And then he makes the choice, and again we see Wilhelm all on his own after it, while Simon is being comforted by his mother. Fucking hurts. And to top of all of that, he loses Simon, and finds out that his cousin was the one that ruined everything, and his mom knew. And still so many viewers are disappointed with or mad at Wilhelm for choosing the "easy" way out. So glad to see that you see the situation he is in and empathise with him.

Those hair clips that Sara got/borrowed from Felice are like $300 a piece. Wild.

I'm so glad I subscribed to your Patreon! Loved your Season 1 reactions. I can't imagine how people who had to wait in real time for Season 2 survived. I've already seen Season 2, but I'm ready to explore it in full episodes with you both. I'm STRESSED to start it again, though!

Tree1970

I just rewatched your reactions to the whole series (good work, guys) But I have to say, I am fascinated by Bradley's reaction to the last 15 minutes, or so, of the finalé. Adam had a lot to say but Bradley was absolutely silent and absolutely locked in. Bradley, I would love to know what you were thinking.

Dennis Verner

Is any of you going to attend Omar's gig in Stockholm late February?

Karoliina

You'll get used to it over time. Much worse is to get only 50% of the actual actors performance, as voice and breathing, sighs and mumbles are such an integral part of the art of acting.

Karoliina

Personally I feel that I miss facial expressions etc when I’m busy reading subtitles on the bottom of the screen although I do agree dubbing is awful in most cases.

Diana Clarke

I know the feeling iam the same

lisa mcarthur

There's a full Spotify list of the soundtracks every season. I listen to it often, but sometimes it is too much to handle. As I've seen the show 9 times, I remember exactly the emotions I have during each of the tracks. Sometimes I get a visceral reactions to the song, start tearing up or feel energized just listening to some of the best songs.

Karoliina

And it is not the same actors in S3. Both Edvin and Omar were occupied elsewhere and couldn't do the recordings. And honestly, nobody should EVER watch anything dubbed. It is a disgrace to the original actors work and never the same. Acting is about emotions and reactions between the co-actors in any scene. The beayty is in it when it actually happens and not when generic voices come and repeat the lines. In the Scandinavia/Nordics we have nothing ever dubbed, except for the cartoons sometimes for the kids. Anything aimed at kids above 7 years always have the original actors with subtitles.

Karoliina

Ok. Both or your reactions when Wilhelm looks at the camera at the end are THE BEST! When Bradly looks over his shoulder, I died. You two are adorable. Love watching this with you.

Joy2464

Very true I agree with you there

lisa mcarthur

I wanted to tell you that it gets worse before it gets better after your reaction to episode 5, but I definitely didn't want to spoil anything for you. This show has so much subtle detail, it holds up to many, many re-watches. There's lots of symbolism in the cinematography, like when Wille confronts August in the gymnasium and the wide shot shows him literally standing with his toes up against a line. Whether that's a line of violence or just losing his temper, you can see him fighting to not cross that line. The acting in this show is utterly mind-blowing, especially Edvin Ryding's performance as Wilhelm. The way he portrays emotion is astounding. And this was Omar Rudberg's (Simon) first acting role. And yes, this show is 100% drama. There was a meme going around for a while, after their respective first seasons, with side by side pictures of Young Royals and Heartstopper. The captions read: Young Royals - The Trauma Heartstopper - The Therapy 💀

Scotty

Yes! This^^

Scotty

That song tho!! I still can't listen to that song without tearing up. I really like how they reprised it from the football pitch scene where Simon rescues Wille. This show does so much of that book-ending and reprising of shots, themes, symbolism, like Wille looking into the camera at the title moment of the first episode and the end of the last episode.

Scotty

I've watched both the dubbed and subtitled versions, and while the dubbed versions are better than. some I've seen, especially since the same actors did their own lines, the original language conveys so much more nuance of emotion and performance.

Scotty

its not the same dubbed. the dubbing doesnt have the same effect because it is done after the fact - so you’re not hearing the dialogue from when they were acting. im surprised - after watching people react to this show from the beginning.. you’re the first person ive seen ask for the dubbed version.. usually its the other way around.

LM-Entertainment Australia

“hope you have a nice christmas” 💀

LM-Entertainment Australia

This show just rips the rug out from under you at every turn. Season 2 really ramps up the tension. Looking forward to your reactions

Rebecca Huston

The themes in this show are amazing! We have politics, classism, sexuality, responsibility vs personal fulfillment... it's so good! I'm glad you guys got a taste of Sarah's persona and what drives her. So excited to see you keep reacting to S2 and 3! Great video xx

Gambit

Loved this reaction! The look on your faces when Sarah kissed August 😱 oh my gosh, I can’t wait to see you watch the next seasons! I do have a show suggestion, but it’s pretty small and quite niche. It’s called Sort of. It’s a Canadian show (but I think they released it in the US too) about a person exploring their gender identity while also having traditional parents born in Pakistan. I watched the first season at least 5 times, I just really loved the main character and wanted them to succeed. Anyway, can’t wait to see what you react to next!

Chelsea

i feel like it's different playing it on the set vs. dubbing it after. the emotions are different etc. I honestly prefer the original because we see things exactly as the actors played each scene

Maya

Hi, can I ask why you aren’t watching it dubbed into English? It’s the same actors voices.

Diana Clarke

I like your reactions but sometimes you talk over the important beautifully written dialogue. Looking forward to season 2

MIchelle Arbery

A great reaction guys, as usual. This series is so well done. But I would give it a renaming: Young Royals: The Art of Angst

Dennis Verner

And how he hugged Rektor Anette after Erik's death, when he came back to Hillerska. 😭

Karoliina

I feel so sad for Wilhelm who is all alone now. I get that he got manipulated by the queen, by I wished he would have called Simon before the interview to let him know the change. The miscomunication between the two of them is quite frustrating. Thank you for your reactions to this season. I loved watching 🫶🏻. Hope to see you in season 2’s reactions soon.

Marstrand

Willie hugging himself and self soothing is a glimpse of his childhood and so freaking sad.

Pam R

As much as I love season one, season two is my favorite. The drama intensifies!

jennifer

i love your reaction and in this scene its so up seting to see both of them in pain its hard for both of them what they are going though because of what august did to them i dont blame simon or wille what happen its so hard but u can see how much they still love each other and the hug that wille gave simon was so powerful and when he said he sorry and said i love you in fornt of everyone that was so beautiful and the song for this scene was so powerful its mad me had tears in my eyes and when wille look into the camera it means its going to be a new revolution and there still hope for them to get back together and i cant waite for season 2 and watch it with u guys hopw we dont have to waite to long

lisa mcarthur

Wille's mom is not exactly the mother of the year. My heart bleeds when I think of all that he is going through with zero parental support.

Karoliina

Although, Simon does not try to be mean or hurt Wille. He is just not able to comprehend what is going on and thinks he says a nice thing to Wille. After Wille said "I love you". 🤣

Karoliina

Yes, it reminds me of a similar type of expression when you suggest to someone that doing something is a good idea and that they also might wish to get involved and if not interested, they reply with the following 'well good luck with that!'

Michael

So much betrayal in this episode. I don't call what Wille did to Simon betrayal though because his mother knew what she was doing. She manipulated him hard right from the gate. But she betrayed him and Sara betrayed Simon. August still holds the trophy for the worst betrayal though, not only because it hurt but it was so sickening and violating. While the public now think it wasn't Wille, you heard the students, they all know it was. It's not a secret in that school. But yeah, Simon came out this season the worst in the public eye and Wille came out worst with family life.

Pam R

Yes that line is iconic to this day 😂🙈

Frances

When will you continue with S2? Please don't keep us hanging.... The story will continue and it's going to be so GOOD.

Karoliina

And on another note: The YR fans had to wait almost one and a half years for the second season! After that ending… the frustration was real!!!

Frances

It was Wille who said I love you. Simon replied with the classic "Hope you have a nice Christmas"..... Which has remained alive all these years amongst the fandom. It's a good phrase now to use for a verbal slap on on someone's face in basically any situation. 🤣

Karoliina

The gag when Sara (the double pisser 😂) kissed August 💀 I guess she’s not your favorite character anymore, is she?! Also the fact that the Queen knew all along who did it and still manipulated Wille to deny that it was him in the video is freaking vile!! Can’t wait for season 2! It’s gonna be even more intense than this one 🫣
