It's Nabtober, and Nabby is on the prowl for her favorite prey, Abby!
A series of false starts sees Nabby experience a series of setbacks!
but that's okay! Thanks to SparkSummon's Emma and Nia,
Nabby can turn this around and win the day, right?
Welcome to this month's themed comic, based around everyone's favorite goopy goblin, Nabby!
Nabby fits for the theming of spooky season, even though "Costumes and Candy" are probably a better fit. I may alternate in future but Nabtober is uniquely SaunterWing, y'know?
I'm dropping thumbnails here for a few reasons:
its a promise to you all that I am working on stuff.
its a promise to myself that I have a goal to finish stuff.
I'm not super worried about spoilers for my work. You all know "the rule" (Abby never wins)
Nabby is tricky to write for, as a protagonist, because:
the mystery is the appeal (re: Logan i.e. Wolverine is cool. James "Logan" Howlett, not so much)
Trying to keep regular SaunterWing rules in place as much as possible (re: no easy wins for anybody)
So I don't want to give her anything that gives her much personality beyond the established, or make her eventual victory come too easily.
That's where SparkSummons's Emma and Nia come in. Bias Disclaimer: Spark has done a lot of good work with both Abby and Nabby, and that predisposes me to pay it back/forward. But also Emma shares a similar body type and role to Abby, which makes it easy to mod her into my stuff.
That's a lot of the reason why a lot of these anikoma and anishorts haven't featured as many guests as I would like. Modding rigs is a lot easier than creating them, and universal changes make that prospect even more daunting.
I used to have a lot of shortstack rigs of other characters, but when I made universal changes to Abby, those rigs had to functionally be scrapped because the Abby changes couldn't be integrated into those other characters.
I'm remedying this by having folders for other characters within the universal shortstack rig. That's going to eventually be a problem (it's not a great idea to store so many assets in one file) but I can't let a potential problem stop me from trying a workable solution now.
As for Nia (the taller succubus character), this is me ripping a bandaid on "normal" sized characters, and both integrating them into my regular workflow and comics. its something I've been meaning to do for a while, so here we go!
So, next steps:
start on the first comic
work on Patreon Pitch ideas
Game Over/Animation loop ideas for the month?
working on a sculpture 3D animation rig template.
Thank you for taking this ride with me, and I'll see you in the next update!
