Moo!
I decided to get Abby in on the #Yearofthecow meme by repurposing an old animation. Cow bell, horns, cowkini... the works!
Said older animation came with a spot of hypnosis.
I don't think Abby minds, though!
Sometimes, it's a good idea to get in on a meme.
I think part of the reason following memes gets a bad rap in the art community is this weird idea that enjoying taking part in the meme and benefitting from the increased visibility are mutually exclusive, and that's not exactly true.
You can do the meme because you enjoy the idea of it, with the benefit of it being a bonus.
That being said, I think it can be disingenuous to not acknowledge the increased visibility of doing a meme at the height of its popularity.
In this case, I've done cow stuff with Abby before, so it kinda only makes sense to do more with her!
That being said, I decided to repurpose an old animation rather than make a new one for three reasons:
I made the obvious additions
But I also took the opportunity to do some subtle revising. Most noticeable to me is adding additional colors to the pallet. I used to just have a specular highlight layer, but to make things extra shiny, I started adding a layer of white shine to later pieces. I figured it wouldn't hurt to do that here.
I also syncronized the eyes, so they the spirals flow into each other organically, rather than cutting between each other.
Also, rather than simply modifying the mouth to "moo," I made it a proper lipsync, where she's doing the mouth phenomes and you can imagine her actually "moo-ing." That way it's not just reusing and adapting the animation, but also genuinely improving on what came before.
What do you think?
