[Salvos] 723. Scope (End of Salvos Book 13)

723. Scope

***

It had no name.

Oftentimes, it was referred to as ‘child’ by its creator. But it knew that this was a title— a term of endearment, even— however it intuitively understood that was not a name.

So the child just accepted that it had no name. And it did what it was told by its creator. For if not for its creator, it would have no purpose.

It would have no existence.

Thus it purged the corruption. It used its divine rays to blast the outpouring of distorted creatures back into the end of the world they came from. That was not all. It repaired the broken space— through sheer destructive force, of course.

Because that was all the child knew. To destroy. For the sake of its creator.

And that was what its siblings did too. Together, they continued to inundate the corruption with their purifying light.

But as they flooded the landscape with their divine-ordained power, something crept along the side of the mountain range to the distance. The child spotted it first. Its many eyes darted in the direction of the moving figure, staring curiously.

Because it had been told that the area had been evacuated, even before the arrival of [The Judge Ordained By The Arcraem]. After all, every Spirit within the vicinity of an End Vent had been told to leave, warned of the threat that was imposed to the area.

And yet, these figures moved. Were they even Spirits?

The child didn’t know. It had only ever been allowed to see the [Angels] and [Seraphims]. But nothing more from its creator's kingdom.

However, a curious part of the child wondered where exactly these figures were heading to. There were four of them, and they seemed to be moving towards where the remains of [The Judge Ordained By The Arcraem] had been sent flying towards.

The child wanted to intercept them— to question them. But it reminded itself of its place. It was only supposed to follow orders. So it ignored them.

Because it was ordered only to purge the corruption, so that was what it would do.

So as Edithe, Druma, Willy, and Centina made their way through the valley, the [Ophanims] ignored them, focusing on blasting the corruption into nonexistence in the background.

“Are you really done?”

The voice came echoing through the tunnel. It was almost a mocking tone. Perhaps even uncaring. However, the young man knew that it was intentionally meant to aggravate him.

To push him further.

To force him to stand tall and strong.

So even as Daniel panted, he raised his head and glared up at the shadowed figure standing at the mouth of the cavern.

“I am not done.”

The [Hero] from Earth said as he raised the Sword of Alexander. And Yves Virgil just grinned, crossing arms as he leant against the cave entrance.

“Are you sure about that? You know, Kacey is starting to get worried that you’re going to die here.”

The Watcher drew back, placing his hands behind the back of his head.

“And I am too. Because, like, I’m going to be honest— you’re really weak for a [Hero]. Maybe you should give up.”

Daniel just gritted his teeth and turned away from the man standing there. He looked back towards the darkness of the cave, seeing a dim light making its approach.

“I don’t care. I won’t surrender.”

And as he spoke, he heard a chittering sound approaching. At the same time, Yves just chuckled as he strode away from the cavern, his footfalls slowly disappearing in the distance.

“You better focus, then. Otherwise, you’ll join the souls of the fallen gods trapped in perdition.”

As those words echoed around Daniel, he heard the soft chittering. He saw the shadows make their approach. He inhaled deeply, preparing himself for what was to come as he stared into the seemingly endless void ahead.

And even though he saw nothing, he could feel their terrible presence. It was like staring at flowers made of human teeth. An unsettling sensation that grew into something deeper; something further; something far more incomprehensible.

Until they arrived.

And they swarmed him with their disfigured bodies— they reached for him with their cloying claws. But Daniel cut them down, even if they… always… came… back.

Rachel smiled as she set the picnic basket down before the barrier protecting Mavos Academy. It was morning. The sun was rising over the horizon, and she was the only one here. Usually. Oriur and the others would only join her later in the afternoon.

But that didn’t mean she was here alone. Taking in a deep breath, she spread her arms wide and greeted her audience.

“Hello! I’m back again!”

Because there they were— diligently waiting for her. Like they always were. A few dozen or so Centinels, quietly sitting there and listening as she spoke to them with glee. Even an [Ancient Centinel] stood there, not attacking the barrier. It just silently stared at her as she sat down and began to dig into her picnic basket.

And as she spoke, they listened. They stared at her. Perhaps even menacingly. But they didn’t try to attack.

“Sorry I’m a bit late today. But I prepared some snacks. This is a tuna sandwich. It’s made from—”

After all, Rachel had grown to know each one of them at this point, and so did they grow to know her.

We arrived back at the base we had set up for our little rebellion, bringing both Manos and Sicar with us. When they arrived, the gathered Demons in the area immediately tried to flee in fear. But Haec began to reassure everyone that everything was ok. Slowly, they began to ask questions, wondering exactly what happened during the battle with Jofis.

But I didn’t bother with any of those conversations. I just sat down to do what I needed to do right now.

“Let’s see what new Title options I’ve got.”

I grinned as I pulled up my availabilities.

[Titles Availables]

And my eyes grew wide at what I saw.

Edithe took the risk. She thought they would ignore her. And she was right. The [Ophanims] didn’t even glance her way, and their attacks wouldn’t even harm her if they got close to her. So she navigated through the valley, making her way to where she had last seen the Archangel.

Because she needed to get to it. It was the reason why she came here to the Spirit Plane. And if it was truly dead, then she was trapped. So it didn’t matter if she died. So she gathered the courage to test her theory and moved.

Druma, Willy, and Centina had been apprehensive at first. But they eventually relented and followed her when they saw that it was safe.

It would take a while for Edithe to reach her destination. Which was why she made haste. After all, she needed to cross such a vast valley, before scaling through the ruins of a destroyed mountain range.

And as she continued crossing the valley, she truly hoped that the Archangel somehow survived what happened to it. Otherwise, all her hope would be crushed.

Otherwise, she would have come to the Spirit Plane for no reason whatsoever.

But before Edithe could even make it across the valley, she came to a halt as she saw something glinting up ahead.

It was something that was still lying on the ground, left behind from the battle between the two Supreme Spirits.

Between the two gods.

And it was—

[Scythe Of The Arcraem: Legendary Grade - ???]

…maybe I didn’t actually come to the Spirit Plane for nothing, after all, Edithe thought as she came to a halt before the flaming object.

Comments

As interesting as the whole spirit lord multiverse stuff is, I enjoy the relatively smaller scale stuff like Rachel talking to the Centinels much more.

ArcaneOverride

:))) That would be fun. Also, imagine Salvos just passing through those 7 layers of defence like they're nothing and starting to hug Rachel and her kids. :)

Danijel Turina

If that happens, I kinda want the council to be there to see it. Not for any story reason, just to have the idiots shit themself

Angworu

"Who's to say the lvl 250 cap applies to everyone and not just to creatures up to lesser gods? What about the corruption? Maybe you can increase your level beyond 250 if you surpass the confines of the system and become a true worldwalker?" - those are all valid points, because, obviously, those limits apply within the confines of the System, and if one learns to use magic in ways that System can't process, you might get either failure to process, or errors, and that's where we come to the corruption, because it looks very much like failure to process. However, it also looks like outright damage, and I think the inspiration for it are memory errors in computers, which look very much like that. I looked at enough damaged files in the DOS era in the hex editor to know. :) This makes me less enthusiastic about Salvos diving deeper into corruption as an energy-type; if it's structure-damage, and not just failure to process resulting in invalid mapping, she needs to get out of it sooner rather than later. If, however, it's invalid mapping, for instance due to differences between reality and System's address space, if she manages to create a map and align corruption with System's skills, classes and who knows what, she will basically teach System how to extend its understanding of the Multiverse. As you can see, I've been giving it some thought, but I can't know what Melas had in mind so, in the end, we need to wait and see.

Danijel Turina

First it is weapon for Reachel to use :) Maybe she is main character all along

Użytkownik Przeciętny

Would love the art

Użytkownik Przeciętny

"But right now its feel like she's handy capping herself by using a scythe that can't do the same damage that her claws can." - I guess, but I don't think it makes that much of a difference, since she can overlay the scythe with the same skills she empowers her claws with. The problem is, everything is taking place too quickly for her to practice magic and figure out new things that logically follow from everything she already has. "She can also probably have a week to practice with stuff with her clustered time dilation " - of course she can, but that would be a simple and logical thing to do, which means there's no way she thinks of it. :)

Danijel Turina

"And once she does, she takes any demon thats close to evolving up to the mortal realm on a field trip to farm Centinels" - that actually sounds like a great idea, and I can already imagine her opening a rift, and all kinds of terrible Primeval and Arch- Demons streaming out and descending upon the Centinel swarm, wreaking slaughter and mayhem, while the humans inside the academy absolutely shit themselves, thinking it's another Demon invasion and Regnorex is coming or whatever. :)

Danijel Turina

I think Salvos is going to learn about the Academy situation before the final battle in the Netherworld. And once she does, she takes any demon thats close to evolving up to the mortal realm on a field trip to farm Centinels, just like she did when she was much lower leveled. There are so many Centinels at the academy, it could easily give the former slaves a massive powerboost. Salvos just needs to keep the ancient centinels and the matriach busy, maybe with a newly evolved salvo of vanity

Angworu

I agree she needs better weapons. But right now its feel like she's handy capping herself by using a scythe that can't do the same damage that her claws can. She can also probably have a week to practice with stuff with her clustered time dilation

Shade Light

Also, while she is incredibly versatile, she lacks super-destructive Grand Skills, like [Godkiller], that Clayton's disintegration skill, or Helena's wide-area devastation skill. That's not necessarily terrible, because relying on such skills can evolve into a terrible weakness, for instance if you get used to killing enemies with that, and then for some reason it doesn't work and you are fucked. Being able to dismantle enemies with dozens of different skills, of which most are going to work well enough, is probably preferable, unless you are dealing with a target that's so hard that none of it has any effect. And, of course, that's what she eventually will.

Danijel Turina

Probably, but that's not saying much since it's just not enough. I mean, yeah, she can rip a lvl 170 demon to shreds without even trying much, or crush a lvl 164 like a cockroach. The problem is, she just ran out of weak enemies at this point - the immediate expected fight is a lvl 191, and then it's the Primordials. Sure, she is expected to get an upgrade in stats from levelling [Divine Essence of...], but still, a truly powerful weapon such as that [Scythe of the Arcraem] would be just what she needs at this point, because even if she could create an Mythic-grade weapon, she can't do it in the time constraints of her situation. She basically fought Hartia days ago, and in the meantime she crushed 24 Legion-heads more-less single-handedly, and then Jofis happened. When she created Primordial Sword and Staff, it took her weeks of practice every night. She didn't even have the time to pick the low-hanging fruit such as practicing with the corruption and divinity combinations, and instead she has to learn what a skill does by using it in a fight with a lvl 196. Also, when an Archmage such as herself has to resort to claws as the strongest weapon, it means she's not doing something right. She could create space-crushing or geometry-inverting skills that fragment the target into oblivion, or all kinds of terrible weapons that combine corruption, divinity, space magic and creation skills, such as, I don't know, a scythe whose blade teleports the target's atomised fragments in corrupted form across a ten kilometer area. It's a weird thing to say that someone who just outlevelled Helena and Clayton and faced a dozen Primevals up to lvl 183 in a battle where she crushed them all like bugs with single strikes is not strong enough, but considering what's ahead, I'm afraid that's what it is. If she had to fight Great Agarus, she could take his best shots for five minutes, he could take whatever she threw at him, and then she either escapes again or dies. Technically speaking, she doesn't necessarily have to kill Regnorex now, just completely mess up his ritual forcing him to delay it until the next cycle. However, with her luck, and the way things are going, she'll have to fight Focalor, Regnorex and Trico within a timespan of days, and also deal with the Centinels. Also, I hope she doesn't have to kill 600 Primevals as well. That's what I mean when I say she needs weapons, layered protections and all kinds of new stuff that kicks abundance of ass.

Danijel Turina

Thought. Isn't Salvos' claws far more dangerous than any other melee weapon she has currently. Due to her natural Enchantment Breaker Trait and combined with her [Claw of Corruption]'s passive effect?

Shade Light

I've been thinking about what we know. Salvos got the ability to level her Divinity GS, which is great, and one of the things I was musing about before on autorepeat, because it seems crucial - she doesn't have the levels necessary to deal with the kind of opponents she is about to face in her attempt to reach 190/200, and +100 to all stats looked really impressive when she was level 125, but I assume the Primordial evolution gives some huge stat boost, basically lifting one by an order of magnitude, and she will now need much more. Her weapons and attack skills are insufficient for the task, as witnessed by the Jofis fight and her inability to cut his head off in the end with her best combo of skills and scythe. That's not good, and she obviously needs more. Her [Flames] GS is one of the best protective shields known to Nexeus, however it's very short lasting at full protection, and she has literally no backup now that she no longer has [Protection of the Sentinel/Corruption], and also no artefacts. That Breastplate of Alexander sure was handy when she was fighting opponents 40 levels and an evolution above herself. All in all, she could really use a secondary protective skill or an artefact as a backup for her GS, because when that fails it's just [Corrupted Regeneration], which so far didn't activate and I'm still scared of what it will do. I expect everything it regenerate to grow back corrupted, and that's bad. Some of her stats, like Strength, are really low for inflicting a fatal impact on a high-level target. Case in point, Haec's [Right Hand...] GS strike was much stronger and more damaging than anything she could do, despite the fact that she has like 20 levels on him and a GS boost. This is increasingly going to be a problem as she keeps fighting stronger opponents. Eventually she'll just be tossed around until her GS fizzles out. She might have to add more stat points to strength. So far her speed has been her greatest asset, but, as Ira pointed out, what good is being fast if you're also weak and fragile? She basically needs a very strong weapon that is capable of crushing or decapitating a Primordial, and since that [Scythe of the Arcraem] just happened to present itself, my conclusion was that this must be intentional and this weapon is just what she needs, and since the Archangel is unlikely to just give it up if he's alive, I'm afraid it means he's going to die, hopefully not before rifting our guys into the Netherworld, and hopefully right on top of Salvos, because she's running out of time. That ritual must be approaching, and she will now experience the following things in succession: - Chordus lvl 191, handful of lvl 180s and dozen of lvl 160-170s leading a few million slaves is about to be confronted by Salvos and her core team. Feathers are going to fly, and she is going to level again, hopefully a lot. It's going to be a serious enough fight, but hopefully without bullshit grand skills and nigh-immortal opponents, which means a repeat of the Venas fight. She liberates millions of slaves. All cheer, except Hartia who has to remove all those collars. He's cranky but no longer as much since he now likes Salvos much more. - Regnorex finds out he lost his entire slave army and all of the legion heads. He also finds out that he lost the head of the Death Squad. The Death Squad finds out that their leader defected, and most of them decide it's the best idea and also join the rebellion. Regnorex sends Focalor to deal with it. - Salvos has a face-off with Focalor, and it's going to be a big one, like Soli vs. Archangel, and she tries to talk to him and opens [Truth Divination] while he beats the shit out of her with his chains. Fortunately, [Flames] have a short cooldown or she's toast. Also hopefully, her soul magic works and she gets a Primordial on her side. - Regnorex, his vanguard and the rest of his high level forces, basically 600 Primevals, will now have a face-of with Salvos and the rebellion. By that point, she better have that scythe and all the buffs, powerups and gadgets, or she's fucked.

Danijel Turina

My best guess is that they either reach the Archangel or the scythe turns out to house at least a fragment of the Archangel. In either case, the Archangel is about to die and uses his remaining strength to open a portal and that portal will open either in Salvos' pocket space or in her face, locked right onto Salvos' distinct corruption. Salvos gets the scythe and a power boost through the dying breath of the Archangel. With that, she's now at the level of a primordial without actually being one. She is then sent off on a wilg goose chase that has her slay Reggie, Matriarch Centinel and a few other primordials, maybe even some corrupted spaces or corrupted primordial entities, all in order to attune herself to the scythe and new power and earn a specific evolution the Archangel described. But Salvos can't pick that evolution over the other options. So she holds off on evolving until Soli sends a cleanup force. And in that moment, when Soli's guys are about to kill her, she forges her own destiny and gets an evolution surpassing the previous options. With her new powers, she manages to kill off one of the attackers and drive off the others. They book it, kicking off a sort of guerilla fight against Soli until Salvos is finally strong enough to face him. Add in the Sally business and a dozen other subplots involving known characters including Sal and Thera and we have another few years of amazing reading 👍 Even if my outline is remotely close to the real thing, there will be twists! Lots of them!

Dragonmaster_42

I still have no idea how they are going to leave the Spirit Plane, and it's annoying, because I keep trying to figure it out, and whatever I think of has like 80% chance of being wrong. If I were a cat, the tip of my tail would be twitching. :) The guess so far was they reach the Archangel, they talk, for some reason finding Salvos appears to be the next logical step, and not dealing with the Centinels. The Archangel probably goes with them. They reach Netherworld, and it's of course a wasteland consisting of wild demons and boredom, and there's also no food and water, and who knows what the temperature is. Not good. They also have no idea where Salvos is, but they assume it's close to Regnorex because that's where the portal went. They fight wild demons, those close to 150 get a class upgrade/evolution. Eventually they reach Salvos, all hungry, thirsty, beat up and half dead, and she first hugs them all and then instantly rifts them to the Mortal Realm to give them food and water and have them recover, or merely rifts a clone there to get supplies if they want to stay. She instantly syncs memories with Sally, and that's probably important; [Salvo of Vanity] levels up or upgrades to a superior skill such as [Second Life]. She probably decides that the Centinels can wait longer than Regnorex, but now she's aware of the situation at least. Sally informs Clayton that help will arrive, but they have to kill Regnorex first. Clayton facepalms and says "FML, we're doomed". It's too trivial a guess, so I don't see it happening like that. Most likely, Melas will just ignore the food and water aspect of the story, the way he did in the Spirit Plane, where they haven't eaten anything for two days and it wasn't mentioned as a problem. Magical bag with supplies or something. Also, let's assume the Archangel is dying or dead, and can't really help them. They are stuck, and the next idea is to find the Fairies and ask for a rift home. It's a terrible idea because the Fairies are hostile to Humans, but it beats just waiting to die. So, they scour the outer limits of the Spirit Plane, find the Fairy realm, eventually talk to Lilly and she either joins them or gets Rose to open a portal. It's a complicated mess and introduces so many extra steps, I'm sure Melas will find a more elegant solution, like the Archangel using his last strength to open them a rift and dying, because the Arcraem tells him that's a priority. In any case, Salvos will find that scythe incredibly handy for the major fights with the Primordials, and the scary possibility is that she won't be able to wake Focalor up, and instead will have a terrible fight to the death. I hope there's a good way out for him because he's one of the last survivors of the 1st kingdom and his knowledge and power will be needed. I somehow always assume she fights Regnorex as a near-190 Primeval, wins, and gets an evolution to both Primordial and a higher-level God type, and then has to deal with the corruption and Trico. But considering how many new elements have been introduced recently, I'm almost completely certain I'm wrong and there will be surprises that turn everything upside-down, twice.

Danijel Turina

I think she tends to think that if she doesn't see a problem, nobody should, but that's not how it works. Also, she is a poor communicator, because she is not good at telling a story that would lead people's understanding from where they are to where she is, or at least where she wants them to be. She has lots to learn from the Devil, who is very good at people stuff, actually. I'm not even sure if she has a problem there or just doesn't give a shit.

Danijel Turina

No, Taburas couldn't be Salvos in her place. Nobody else could have done it, other than perhaps Samuel. However, not even Salvos could have done it without help.

Danijel Turina

Who's to say the lvl 250 cap applies to everyone and not just to creatures up to lesser gods? What about the corruption? Maybe you can increase your level beyond 250 if you surpass the confines of the system and become a true worldwalker? Is The Beast only level 250? And even if it is, can't you develop in other ways? Evolve skills, gain additional subspecies and classes, there are some possibilities. It all boils down to the following: You cannot differentiate if something is universally true or just under a condition that applies to everyone. And it doesn't even cause problems if an author changes his mind to go from the first to the latter. Some do it regularly (at least that's what my superficial knowledge of Goku tells me). Needs to be well thought out either way, though, not just B is A+1, but Melas has that down to a science. There's always an interesting twist.

Dragonmaster_42

"God" is a versetile concept that can be interpreted as anything from the cause of all existence to the quintessential core of humanity metaphorized to an apathetic eldrich-style existence, depending on what you want to say. My point is that "She clawed herself through all odds and achieved something never seen before!" sounds like a greater accomplishment than if you add "... but everyone could have done it if they had that path prepared by the same higher existence." Even if you believe that we are emoted by God's blood we spill until we expended all he put in us (which is my framing of metaphysical infusion, be it formulated for another context), I hope we agree that experiences shape the subject (even objects in a way). And off we go down the slippery slope of "Would, say, Taburas essentially be Salvos, if she followed her path in Salvos' place? What parts would you need to switch back and forth for it to work and what parts would develop on a different path to the same result (like convergent evolution)?"

Dragonmaster_42

I just imagined leder-clad roudy teenage Salvos chewing bubblegum and checking her phone while all hell breaks loose! 😂😂😂

Dragonmaster_42

"We arrived back at the base we had set up for our little rebellion, bringing both Manos and Sicar with us. When they arrived, the gathered Demons in the area immediately tried to flee in fear. But Haec began to reassure everyone that everything was ok. Slowly, they began to ask questions, wondering exactly what happened during the battle with Jofis." - this must have been quite a scene, everybody losing their shit and Salvos is being Salvos and checking her phone for mail. :) She can be so sensitive to the moods and needs of others, and then there are times like this. :)

Danijel Turina

"You don't understand what the word "valley" means." - unlikely.

Danijel Turina

You don't understand what the word "valley" means.

Alexey Gladkich

"The whole valley was the crash site" - no, the mountain beyond is. "After all, she needed to cross such a vast valley, before scaling through the ruins of a destroyed mountain range."

Danijel Turina

The whole valley was the crash site. He likely released a piece of himself to survive the attack and thus, it is located at the beginning.

Alexey Gladkich

"It was located at the crash site." - no evidence of that; Edithe saw it halfway across the valley, didn't say where it was. Also, honestly, I just don't see it. The Judge would do his absolute best to recover and continue his mission. The obvious explanation was that debris fell out as he flew into the mountain, probably meaning he somewhat decompressed along the flight path, but I would expect him to be at the crash site, just very much hurt; maybe dying, maybe regenerating, but nothing that can be dealt with easily or he would've done it already.

Danijel Turina

Also, Salvos promised Daniel to find him a way back home to Earth, so there's a bit of room for events after the main Trico/corruption arc.

Danijel Turina

It was located at the crash site. He probably needs to revive himself in some way to continue his mission, and the weapon likely holds a path to that.

Alexey Gladkich

I wouldn't bet very hard on the "half way over" thing; Melas can always reconstruct the plot and compress it, or introduce some new idea and extend it. As for the lvl 250 being max, yes, that's a thing.

Danijel Turina

I can't say it's impossible, but I don't think it's likely. First of all, I don't see a purpose there. What would it accomplish? Also, the scythe was found ways off his crash site. I don't think it's something that weird, but there's some mystery there.

Danijel Turina

Grade of the weapon is supposed to be declared after '-' not after ':' It could be that the Archangel morphed into a scythe and decided on the identification label to trick people.

Alexey Gladkich

iirc around chapter 500 or 600 melas said the series was half way over and the max level of the system is lvl 250, so within the next 500 chapters soli should be defeated, and trico, and the nexus saved

Brandon14754

No, the grade was explicitly declared, so it can't be that. Maybe it can be fully identified only by the owner, like Salvos' jacket.

Danijel Turina

I just went through the text again, and the Archangel used: longsword axe hammer lance. Basically, he used every melee weapon other than a scythe. Also, his weapons seem to have been conjured ad hoc, the way Salvos does it, and the hammer was even destroyed, so we can dismiss the possibility that the weapon Edithe knows as a scythe is some kind of a shapeshifting weapon, like the Star Forge of Salvos. This increasingly looks like something that was created along the Archangel's path, and dropped there, probably by a command from Arcraem, basically passing the staff to Salvos because he's gone. Also, considering how long he's out, I'm afraid he's either dead or dying, although a complex and time consuming regeneration/rebirth isn't out of the question either. I would expect them to find him in a dire state. edit: no, I'm wrong, I missed this: "“How did you like that? A gift to me from the Arcraem itself!” The Archangel cackled as it created a scythe, walking up to the Spirit Lord. “You say that the Arcraem is an unfeeling God that cares not for its world, huh?” Raising the scythe, the Archangel began to swing down at the Spirit Lord." It got the Scythe from Arcraem at the last moment. This, however, changes nothing in my conclusion.

Danijel Turina

"There is no reason to assume Salvos will face of against Soli within the next 500 chapters!" - no, it doesn't feel that way. It feels like all the lines are converging with increasing speed and the grand arc is closing.

Danijel Turina

"It tends to diminish the achievements of characters" - I don't think it does. It's a complicated idea, foreknowledge vs. predestination and it's been discussed since st. Augustine, but the general idea is that "God" will always know the outcome of all actions, and it doesn't negate free will in any way, because when the religions say God is "eternal", they don't mean infinite duration of time, they mean eternity as a state transcendental to time and space, a sort of a temporal singularity which perceives every point in time as "now", and sees the entire span of time as accomplished, and yet just created. So, basically, what I mean by the System guiding Salvos is that all her accomplishments are truly her own. It's just that the System put things in her path that had the ultimate result of increasing the probability of saving the world. She just had to be Salvos. For instance, if she didn't get so pissed at the Devil as to challenge him to a duel, which is typically Salvos, this entire timeline wouldn't have happened. If she chose to be "wild" and just kill everybody for levels, this timeline wouldn't have happened. Her being herself is a necessary ingredient. The System just put Haec, Daniel, Edithe, the Devil, Xidra, Belphegor and others in her path. So, basically, all her achievements are fully her own, because she was herself, and she made choices that pruned the tree of her existence in such a way as to make her the best possible version of herself, the version that both craves power and is fiercely protective of friends. But she also had more luck than plausible. I mean, in the first day or two in the Mortal Realm she stumbles upon none other than the Hero, who ends up teaching her the rules of the plane in order to fit in and thrive. Also, of all the things she could do, such as end up enslaved by Regnorex and evolve into a rudimentary being like Haec, she ends up in the Mortal Realm where she is taught by all kinds of beings, including the only Fairy in that plane, and they all teach her ethics and temper her excesses, making her a much kinder, softer person, which eventually led to her being the only person in history to ascend to Lesser God at 150.

Danijel Turina

I'm very much cautious of the "guiding hand of fate". It tends to diminish the achievements of characters. I much prefer the dark souls style "statistical necessity" type of fate. I hope Melas doesn't write himself into a corner there...

Dragonmaster_42

"But she will need to become a True God for that [...] next evolution" Please remember that Reggie was teased as an antagonist in the first volume and isn't even resolved at the end of volume 13! There is no reason to assume Salvos will face of against Soli within the next 500 chapters! There might be subplots with subplots and side quests and Salvos might need to achieve a level 300 evolution or some such thing. We don't even understand Soli's power who effortlessly beat down Iudex whose power we do understand but is still fundamentally beyond her.

Dragonmaster_42

I believe it was supposed to mark the grade, i.e., Legendary Grade, but Melas just couldn't not write its grade.

Alexey Gladkich

Soli's "Angels" are, as Archangel said, a mockery. The true Angels are the agents of the System, and what Soli created is closest to the golems and gargoyles of Belphegor.

Danijel Turina

Here's a thought: Salvos is a lesser god, right? We've seen that Soli might be a greater god and this chapter confirms the angles we've seen are creations of Soli. I think Sally is going to be Salvos's first angel and Salvos will probably get a few skills or upgrades/evolutions when that happens. But something else that goes along with godhood ... Is prayer. Could Edithe get into trouble and say something like "I'm sorry, Salvos..."? This could draw Salvos to Edithe.

Matt Cannon

This increasingly looks like the pieces are falling into place for the decisive battle for the very existence of Nexeus. Also, if I assume that Arcraem is the name of the World System, meta-System or something of that kind, it is playing an increasingly active role for something that's supposed to be passive, which, if anything, shows desperation. My guess is that Soli/Trico is goading Regnorex into doing something that will inflict the final blow to Nexeus, and not only do they need to be stopped, but Salvos seems to be guided to do it, despite her total ignorance and presumable reluctance. I already guessed that the System is guiding Salvos' destiny, probably by finding a line of success/survival in the future and then tracing it back to choose the past that will make it happen. I mean, *someone* gave Salvos the [Angelic Premonition], and some extrapolation of that leads to an obvious conclusion that the System can trace timelines. Things like the Devil "accidentally" encountering Salvos, then Salvos "accidentally" saving the life of one of the best experts on corruption in the Mortal Realm and learning the stuff that just happens to be extremely useful later, then all the Treasures of Alexander finding their way into her hands, the book on Divinity and Ascension "accidentally" finding its way into her hands, her "accidentally" finding the entrance to the First Kingdom, seeing the problem firsthand, talking to Belphegor, talking to Samuel about it and healing his soul... and now she just accidentally happens to lead a major rebellion to stop the most dangerous event since the initial Apocalypse. Yeah, some sequence of "accidents". I think the System/Arcraem is empowering her to solve the problem, one step at a time, and there are only few steps left now. That's why I think the [Scythe of the Arcraem] is specifically left there as both a weapon and a message for Salvos, the message being that she's not alone, and it's not her fight alone; the soul of the world is at her side. That's why the Title might be something extreme - [Champion of the Arcraem], for instance, where she will get special tools and a message in the description. An even more extreme possibility is [Annointed Queen of Nexeus], which would negate any domain privileges of any lesser ruler and grant her essentially the right to install and depose planar rulers. Plus some extreme skills, stat boosts and hopefully immortality. And who knows what skills and power boosts the [Scythe of the Arcraem] gives its authorised wielder? It would be so much fun if she killed Regnorex like a fly, because I'm kind of done with him being presented as some kind of a big shot.

Danijel Turina

Well, first of all I must say that this scythe looks like something Arcraem created specifically for Salvos, because the Archangel didn't use a scythe before. He used a longsword, and I'm reading the previous chapters again to see if I missed anything, but I think I would have remembered a scythe if it were mentioned. This looks like both a message and assistance to Salvos, because she apparently needs all the help she can get. And, unfortunately, this implies that the Archangel is indeed dead, or will soon die, and I really don't know how our guys will rift to Salvos, and when. This part is intentionally unguessable.

Danijel Turina

Is it a living weapon that can gain levels? Did the archangel transfer itself to its weapon to cheat death?

Danielv123

"[Scythe Of The Arcraem: Legendary Grade - ???]" - I wonder what the question marks mean here.

Danijel Turina

I decided to become patreon member not just because I couldnt w8 for the books to come out. I really want to see more of the Salvos comics, and maybe even an anime or animation in the future. I really enjoy that evolutions or classes here are meaningfull not an asspull in similar stories. I like buildup, cohesion and forshadowing like nothing else. Also we care about Amelia, hope you find a cool way to use here again. Maybe Melas witch will make a comeback too.

Użytkownik Przeciętny

"you know this is the second time this week I’ve been left hanging from a cliff by the nail of my smallest finger by an author… " - yeah, and it sucks.

Danijel Turina

146 is great, it's better than I hoped. I hope Edithe is somewhere close to that too, because that would mean they are both one serious fight away from an evolution/class upgrade, and they really need it because this is increasingly looking like a big boys' game.

Danijel Turina

Well, she is the only other true Angel on the Nexeus, or at least sort of, since I would expect you would have to consciously commit yourself to it, which she didn't. I hate cliffhangers. :(

Danijel Turina

Daniel: "Training with the Watcher can't possibly be worse than Salvos." Yves: "Hold my beer". :)

Danijel Turina

the title is probably possible to get as long as the arcraem labels you their judge and while salvos currently hasn't talked to or met the arcraem the title itself might come with a skill to communicate with the arcraem. For all why know the arcraem has been watching salvos and if now the position has opened maybe they/it told the system salvos is their new judge and so the system offered salvos the title

Brandon14754

"I think if the Archangel is dead, it could be [The Judge ordained by the Arcraem]" - I don't think you can just inherit that Title. Also, I really hope he didn't die, because that would make things much more difficult for our guys, not to even mention the fact that he could give Salvos some precious info she lacks; she doesn't know anything about the Arcraem, or the System, or anything of the sort, and she could really use it. Basically, she's currently flying half-blind into the world ruled by True Gods and Worldwalkers, and they all assume a certain lore she is ignorant of. She does, however, know as much as the 50ky old elders of Nexeus, but that's only a good start. I initially assumed the Title would be something trivial she would snort at, but if it's amazing, I don't really know what it can be. [Immortal] as stackable, like the [Devil's Daughter]? That would be amazing. [Angel of Arcraem] as stackable? I don't see how, at least not yet.

Danijel Turina

in chapter 556 melas had rachel inspect willy and we saw his level was lvl 146 but then gonvas pointed out he was 106 lvls above rachel so she shouldn't be able to see it even with lvl 10 inspection so it was changed to ??? but that's probably still his current level

Brandon14754

Alright got four things to say first, I wonder if Rachel will get a unique class revolving around sentinel’s second, image the shear destructive power if salvos combined her divinity, corruption, fire and that scythe into a ungodly weapon like [demon reaper’s scythe: unique grade - growth type] third, I haven’t read Amelia yet but it’s on my list of many things I plan to read at some point and fourth, you know this is the second time this week I’ve been left hanging from a cliff by the nail of my smallest finger by an author…

"But the scythe is a good failsafe." - especially since we saw that Salvos' current weapons are simply insufficient against a near-Primordial, let alone a Primordial with multiple GS, a Title, and in his domain. She might need all the help she can get. Also, Trico. :( But she will need to become a True God for that, I don't see anything else working, since the Archangel didn't do much, and he looked like Salvos in her next evolution, with next qualitative level of Divinity, authority of Arcraem at his side, and level 240-something, *with* the scythe.

Danijel Turina

I assume she can't possibly wield that, no more than a Platinum rank could wield the Sword of Alexander, so that might eventually end up with Salvos, especially since it just happens to be a scythe. :) Also, I wonder what level are Edithe and Willy? I assume Centina didn't level, but improved her understanding of magic theory working for Clayton, I also assume Willy didn't level since the war and is probably at 135 or something, but Edithe fought all kinds of Archdemons after the war, in the netherfied region. Also 135-something? In any case, all three of them should be close to 150, and I mean "close" in Salvos terms, where getting 15 points is always one serious expedition away. :)

Danijel Turina

King Slayer, Arcraem Right Hand, or Savior of the demon realm

Travis Brown

I don't know, but I hope it's stackable.

Danijel Turina

I think if the Archangel is dead, it could be [The Judge ordained by the Arcraem] But I think the probability is higher that it is either a better version of [Enemy of the Demonking] or a bonustitle like [Immortalslayer] or [Slayer of Jofis the Immortal]. Although it wasn't her that landed the killing blow... Might also be [Eternal Underdog] - opponents above her level are unnaturally cautious of her and she gains stat bonuses and cooldown reduction based on the level difference. Might also be [Time's harsh Master] for her time chamber... Might even be more than one

Dragonmaster_42

I assumed she must be able to level her essence GS with points. If not, the requirenments for the next evolution are very harsh. But the scythe is a good failsafe.

Dragonmaster_42

If salvos can't spend her subspecies or class grand skill points on her general Grand Skill the DE grand skill then maybe this scythe could help salvos level up her DE grand skill

Brandon14754

My guesses are like "God of Death" for having corruption which is true destruction and significantly helped killing the true Immortal jofis, maybe also [The Judge Ordained By The Arcraem] if ludex is really dead, "The Salvos" or "The Nexus's Princess" basically a unique title like "The Devil" or "The Great Agarus", and finally it's not the title that surprised her but the new title gives the bonus of true Immortality like what jofis had but she gets it before becoming a primordial

Brandon14754

Hey guys, what is your prediction for her new title(s)

Mikolai

Congrats on finishing book 13! To think Edithe is getting a brand new scythe with literally zero use. Let's go. Also Rachel really is becoming the sentinel whisperer lmao.

Azrie

And because she has the GS of the world of my mind she could store and pull it out whenever she wants to….

Travis Brown

Tease

Travis Brown

It's a scythe, so I assume Edithe will give it to Salvos. She still needs to cross planes though...

Dragonmaster_42

Thanks for the chapter! I look forward to seeing Salvos' title!

Dragonmaster_42

Congrats on the on the completion of this volume, and the two webtoons in the works! Hope they're successful. Salvos got a banger of a new Title, Rachel is out having picnics with murder-bugs, Daniel is out fighting the corruption it seems, and Edithe got a legendary artifact first before Salvos did. 🤣 Since it's a legendary scythe what are the odds that Edithe will give it to Salvos later on?
