Bloodborne: moon presence

Okay so i'm pretty sure i've said this before but I am a huge fan of the Souls games. Bloodborne is my favorite for many reasons that are difficult to reduce down to a single post. I have done bits of BB fanart here and there but i'm finally getting to a point where I feel i'm good enough to really flex on some of the designs. I don't know how many of these i'll do or how often but I also want to talk a bit about why this material inspires me so much.

In these posts i'm not gonna bring up game mechanics or the play experience but there will be SPOILERS. If you haven't played Bloodborne and want to experience the game in a pure state then I recommend skipping these posts until later. I will however post a spoiler warning like the ones above/below as soon as I get into the spoiler-y stuff, so you can read up until that point spoiler-free :)

so yeah SPOILERS

Anyway this is the final hidden boss of the release game: the moon presence. Also the perfect opportunity to bring up how awesome the item descriptions are. To summon this boss you need to collect and use at least 3 items called "One Third of Umbilical Cord." Interestingly there are actually 4 of these you can find throughout the world, most of which are very well hidden. While the items appear identical they all have a unique description. I wanted to jump right into this because even without any context these flavor texts speak so much to the depth of the story, and in only a few sentences. These rich tidbits of lore make me want to create a story comparably deep but still easy to digest.

Mergo's Cord: "Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate. This Cord granted Mensis audience with Mergo, but resulted in the stillbirth of their brains."

Workshop's Cord: "Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate. The Third Umbilical Cord precipitated the encounter with the pale moon, which beckoned the hunters and conceived the hunter's dream."

Arianna's Cord: "Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate, and Oedon, the formless Great One, is no different. To think, it was corrupted blood that began this eldritch liaison."

Iosefka's Cord: "Provost Willem sought the Cord in order to elevate his being and thoughts to those of a Great One, by lining his brain with eyes. The only choice, he knew, if man were to ever match Their greatness."

All of the Souls games have item descriptions like this but the eldritch themes in Bloodborne speak to me big time. I definitely recommend reading into the lore of these games, its VERY interesting and well written. There's also a ton of youtube videos and podcasts where people discuss and speculate the lore so i'm not gonna regurgitate that stuff. This post is getting very long so i'm going to say goodbye now.

Bye! Love you
