dungeon denizen ~ bell creep
Added 2020-03-03 07:21:31 +0000 UTCSoft distant bell tones are commonplace above ground, perhaps coming from a faraway church or ranch. To hear the thrumming of a church bell in the dungeon could herald the arrival of a bell creep!
These creatures have no definite physical form leading many to believe they are amorphous and adaptable by nature. The fleshy parts of their body seem to be fused with the metal of a large bell, changing the appearance of the creature and the bell both. It is thought that they seek the bells not only for protection but also for navigation. Bell creeps are blind but can use echolocation to locate threats and prey alike. The tentacles that trail down from the bell feature club-like tips that function as instruments for sounding the bell and are equally effective as bludgeoning weapons.
It is unknown how the bell creep is able to levitate and carry such a heavy artifact. The responsible mechanism seems to deactivate if the creature perishes, and they are territorial hunters that make close-up observation difficult.
