Existential Terrestrial (NSFW/Full Set)
Added 2025-05-03 22:49:32 +0000 UTCI've been going to New Orleans from time to time this year to dance and stack up savings for my bigger life and art goals. Honestly, I freakin' love New Orleans so much. As far as cities go, it's my favorite. The music, the culture, the people, the art — it's all magic. I find the people there to be the kindest and most open I've ever met, even more so than in Hawaii, which says a lot.
On my latest trip — my fourth time in New Orleans — I met Anabelle. We crossed paths on the sidewalk, where she was tabling her handmade goods: funky, upcycled jewelry, clothing, and some very bizarre masks. Scary isn't really my style, especially in my photography, but I could see potential in her work. I showed her my art and told her I'd be open to a trade shoot if she wanted to collaborate on a storyline to showcase some of her creations.
She ended up making this mask specifically for our shoot. I told her I preferred softer, more alien vibes, and it just so happened she’d been wanting to create something like that. She also made the bloomer undies and shoelaces we used. We did another shoot with a rat mask (I'll share that in a different post), but what I really love about this one — the space helmet shoot — is how spontaneous it felt.
We spent way longer than I wanted in a bar shooting with the rat mask. Later, with limited time left, we busted out these shots under a bridge just down the street from her house — in only 20 minutes. I even got to step into their trippy home, which was packed wall-to-wall with masks and weird art.
Such a fun little side skowie while working and playing hard in NOLA. If I keep going back (which, let’s be real, I will), I definitely want to continue making art with the beautiful weirdos there.
