Nature of our future updates

As you've probably noticed, last couple of months we couldn't meet the deadline and had to keep working on an update after the release.

Since we're working on Patreon, we try to keep the schedule and make a new release every month. We also try to make as much content as possible and keep trying to make every update bigger and bigger, even if it doesn't show in the number of images, text or code.

Currently we plan an update at the beginning of the month and try to do everything before the deadline. It's a very demanding process and not many developers in the field make their games the way we do.

Current system with a strict deadline has a big plus: we're making as much content as we can in a month every month. But it also has downsides:

We have to do something to stop this vicious cycle. Preferably a way that would keep players happy and wouldn't drive us to our early graves :)

Since we're using Patreon, we see two options:

Option A: We still make plans to make complete versions but we don't tie them down to the release dates. Vast majority of the developers usually do this already.

This means every update will be a coherent experience with fixed amount of content, but there will be no deadline.

The downside is, of course, no schedule, the game will be updated When It's Done™.

The upside is every version will have all planned content, properly tested and we'll try to keep the cliffhangers to the minimum and makes them as natural as possible.

Different Patreon tiers will be getting the game with the same delays (7 days for $20 Patrons, 11 days for $10 Patrons and two weeks for $5 Patrons). This option might create a situation where you won't get an update in a month, which shouldn't be a problem for people who pay us to support our work, but if you want to get something every time you give us your money—which is totally understandable, by the way—then you might prefer Option B.

Option B: we keep the schedule but there's no hard outline for an update. If we can't do something in time, it will have to wait either for the next month or until we go back to the theme of the update we didn't get to finish.

The upside is obvious. The schedule. You will always get updates at the same time of a month.

The downside is fragmentation. If we don't finish an update before the deadline, well, it won't be pretty. Obviously, we're not going to just straight up abandon an update in the middle of a sentence, but the game will have more frustrating cliffhangers. This is a good option for more pragmatic people who want to know what they're paying for.

Pick one. We'll see what you decide and do the best we can. But, you know, without staying overnight until, like, 3 a.m. all the time.

Best option is cancel payment if their is not going to be a update that month. Only pay when you know that their will be a update to the game.

Now as a 5$ tier i have to wait 2 weeks since any new content is released each month, with option A there is no guarantee there is going to be any new content whatsoever each month and i will still have to wait 2 more weeks in order to access the new content whe it is released? Not trying to be a d*ck but you are asking us to accept this " When It's Done™ " development cycle without any kind of compromise from your part? I'm perfectly aware that i'm not buying anything here on patreon, that i'm supporting your development and whatever the result of the poll i'll keep that support for a while, but maybe you should reconsider what you are giving back for that support. There are way worst adult game patreon's (and developers) out there and you have been delivering high quality content but i hope you are aware that not all of us are "whales" and not having a clear delivery timeframe it's quite off-putting.

I'M going to see how this goes, if DS keeps producing this volume of art i'm not going to mind a few extra days.

ghost556

Patreon allows to pay for deliveries and not every month. Maybe it should be considered with the option A then?

Lord G

Or change the payments to be per release instead of monthly if that's possible, under option A a $5 tier patron could have to wait two months before they get to play which would be two payments, it's not acceptable honestly.

We are actually making polls quite often about further plans and development priorities.

Sprint is pretty good, right, but from my experience sprint planning fails pretty often :)

Unlimited loading. How can we solve it?

With Option A, we (pledgers) will lost visibility on roadmap achivements... In my opinion, You have to deliver regularly, even if that means to deliver less. Please take care of your planning poker and stay focus on current sprint : good ideas can be implemented in future sprints...

It's a wrong observation :) It's a potential bug which can prevent progress for some players and we are investigating it now. If bug exists it will be fixed really soon.

Agile development is key here...

My observation is that the updated content is broken. And there has been no statement regarding fixing this or as to when it will be fixed.\

I think it is a false dilemma here. We are not talking about some solo content maker, who works on the game in his free time. We are talking about the team of developers, who work on the game full-time and have a significant number of supporters in return (more than 2K). The described issue is not about the time (which claims option A); it is about the process. The downsides described are all understandable, but it only means that your process is failing, that you are unable to deliver in time and are facing the consequences. The point is - it is your team, who decides what to promise and in which timeframe. If you fail to deliver, then your promises are too optimistic, and estimations are not very good. So start from promising less and try to deliver. When you succeed - you can try to promise more. If we go with option A, it will not resolve the issue with bad estimations and with the process. Reasonable next steps would be: - take some time to fix critical bugs with the current update and to plan future moves - plan the game development for a few months ahead - understand your monthly budget and productivity - reserve time for bug-fixing from that budget - reserve time for the next month planning - decide what to promise for the next update (be pessimistic) You still can have bigger blocks of content, which looks much better in one piece, but take more than one month for development (Epics) - deliver them in pieces each month. Not every version will worth playing, but supporters will see the progress, and you can announce when the Epic is finished so everyone can play it as a full piece. You will have the feedback every month, and you can adjust plans every month according to the situation. And if you see, that you are unable to finish something as promised - re-schedule it for the next month, don't try to catch up - it will mess the process. Just try to split everything into smaller features; in that case, it will be less noticeable if something will not be delivered. -- Regarding the game itself - as many other commenters pointed there are a lot of started storylines, but most of them look deserted now. A lot of "mechanics" were added (laptop, tv, clothing, shops, etc.) but they are not used mostly, which makes the game world look dead.

Lord G

Really? We are not first not last who is struggling with planning. Its extremely common across industry. And this is a common ways to help

Can you please either get rid of the stupid achievement to have nick walk in whilst in shower/bath or at least make it like 90% easier to achieve. I wanted to play further into the villa quest line that was the brunt of last months update and I still haven't done anything because of the intertwining story arc. I've nearly completed 200 days and yet I'm still on 3/11 for both shower and bath and have 0/8 for hot showers with Julia. If it isn't changed in this update or next il just stop my subscription as no point in paying for something when it near impossible to progress.

This is a very weird poll to have. This problem is build upon the fact that there's no clear path for development. First it was a Kate (or her male counterpart) only game but then Max entered the scene and now development time is split between the both of them. At first it was a sandbox but now it's a fixed events driven game and almost none of the sandbox features listed on the homepage are in the game. So I go for option C: Make a list of the things you want in the game, set timeframes for those features to be implemented and stick to it. It becomes more and more difficult to support this game because nobody knows how long it will take for features to be implemented (or which features will be developed next) or which state the game is in a couple of months. It becomes a value versus money spent proposition and Glamour is on the losing side if I compare it with other games I could have bought/supported for the same amount of money spent. I loved this game, I really did and I still see the potential but without a clear roadmap of some kind I'm considering supporting other projects that have clearer goals and a clear idea of how they can reach that goal. Hope you turn this around (without starting a new project or new storyline).

What is this crap about most other creators?? Not true at all!!! Most other adult game creators deliver all planned content on by the set deadline. You are literally the only one I have ever seen have this problem. Why are we voting on something that is caused by your incompetence? The reason you are behind is you released this game way too soon. You should have had more completed before releasing the game from the beginning. 2nd you have wasted so much time trying to figure out what direction to go that you have several unfinished stories going at the same time. It is a very simple fix. You only promise what you can realistically deliver, then you stick to your deadline. Not meeting your deadline is 100% unacceptable. We are paying you to provide something and a specific time. Do Your job!!!!!

When is a fix expected for the current update?

NuTrix

Definitely Option A for me, I'd rather have a bigger update, than having something to do every 4 weeks. Also, I'd rather have a coherent story and play a complete "quest" rather than something that is fragmented.

Troik

Or there’s an Option E and F.... DS, these May be the best ones I think. Option E Next update 0.15 release it on the 5th July giving you an extra few weeks to sort current bugs and catch up with 0.14 progress that hasn’t been done yet, plus June gives you an almost full month to catch up on stuff already not been implemented then go back to normal Option F Remove the schedule completely and use the automatic updates to install new content, but focus on smaller story arcs to bring every other part of the existing stories up to this point in the game, maybe stop doing themed updates and work on other arcs that have been left like Maria and Peter, Sophie, College, so just develop the way you see fit because there’s a lot of content now with Kate, Alice, Julia and Nick and I think other characters need to be brought up to this point.

I'm torn on this. Part of me chooses option B because too many creators go the route of Option A and often fail to provide content, sometimes for 3 or 4 months. If there was some guarantee that the schedule won't slip more than a couple of weeks to a month, then I support option A.

Has anything been fixed or updated since the release? Can players who have only 1/2 of the pill progress?

NuTrix

Can I suggest an option C and D??? Option C - Obviously this will take at least 2 months to implement but why not add in a new tier of support and use your longest serving Patrons to playtest the game before general release to $40 Patrons, like a small number of Test Patrons, who Test the game and check for bugs the week before it becomes available, this frees up more time for development and bug fixes if you or your team don’t have to test the game yourselves. Option D - I know you guys are currently busy but there really needs to be a regular presence on here to answer queries, even if you used a long term supporter for this, this person will need a direct line to yourself via messaging or something, to report problems and give info to supporters as to where you are with bug fixes or to relay information on gameplay queries, help if people are stuck and so on, this option keeps things the way they are except you have like a customer service (social presence) to answer everyday queries you don’t have time to answer yourself
