My problem with this fight is that they should’ve explained as they went rather than save the explanation to make it more suspenseful and make them seem smarter.

yeah his hate for characters just blinds him to that and he wants sasuke to just mop him quick even though he showed him several times he out skilled him. A character holding back abilities to use them in a real death fight later isn't a power scaling issue we get his hate for deidara and he fights annoyingly, but it is what it is he had access to powerful crude abilities and was a stubborn maniac

This is one of my fav fights, shows how much stronger sasuke is compared to naruto and the leaf ninja. 2 tail naruto and a ms kakashi was fighting deidara and stalemating, while it literally took a platoon and prep time to take down Kakazu. On the other hand sasuke was able to fight and defeat Deidara all by himself. Power-scaling imo is quite underrated in naruto, each fight shows levels of combat. Each fight shows progression in skill of the characters.

So my first interpretation when I first watched this fight was the complete opposite of yours Jody. I thought that Sasuke is ready to fight his brother. I came to that conclusion when the Akatsuki said Deidara was one of their strongest members, plus the leader was upset he died. Not to mention Deidara said he was preparing ever since Itachi beat him. So Deidara was prepared to fight an Uchiha, and Sasuke was caught off guard by him. Plus Tobi was helping him in the fight by laying the land mines. Yet and still Sasuke was showing all throughout the fight that he was better than Deidara. Him sticking the sword on the mine was dope, and it displayed his strategic mindset. Now with all that being said, I can see how the heavy monologue discussing his hypothesis can take the viewer out of the fight. I liked more so what the fight did (display more of Sasuke's skill), than the actual fight itself. Which is why I brought this up when Sasuke killed Orochimaru. I would have much rather the show display more of Sasuke's skill with a worthy opponent like Orochimaru, who earned the viewers respect throughout the show. And that's not to say Deidara isn't strong, he is. But Deidara should not have gotten a better death than Orochimaru. Nevertheless, that's two Akatsuki members Sasuke has killed now, all the while sparring the innocent....Just saying
