Experimenting with shorter videos!

Hi everyone! I hope you're doing well and I wanted to give an update on what I'm going to be trying with my upcoming videos. I did some looking at my analytics and came up with a new "system" I'd like to try to get videos out faster while also increasing views . . . hopefully.

Long story short, I looked at how long viewers are watching my videos and a lot of people seem to tune out after a certain amount of time. If a video has better watch time, ALLEGEDLY YouTube pushes it more to recommended pages and stuff. But since my videos seem to be a bit too long than what people prefer, my watch time isn't too great. Hopefully all of this made sense.

SO I'm going to try making some shorter videos in hopes that this will improve my watch time and let me get content out to you guys faster. This also will be fun for me mentally, because due to all my hand pain issues and stuff sometimes I get really overwhelmed when it comes to editing. The idea of making 3-5 minute videos (when it comes to my scripted content) sounds FUN and not daunting to edit. I know some people will probably ask why certain videos are so short, but I figure it's worth a try.

That all being said, there will still be longer videos here and there. Like if I do a letsplay or decide to do a deep dive game review. But the next couple of videos will be on the shorter side.

I've written two of them so far and I'm editing the first one now. The first one will be about mascot games and I'll be focusing on Chester Cheetah, the Noid and Cool Spot. I've been wanting to do a video talking about games like this basically since the start of my channel, but for some reason every time I'd think about making it I'd get really overwhelmed and couldn't figure out just what to say about anything. But with this video, it's more of a light hearted overview of just a few games while also talking about food mascots in general. The intro is really dramatic and unhinged so I'm curious to see how people will react to that, lol.

The video after that is about 4 random bad games from Probe Electronics. I have a super dumb idea for this and I'll post a picture once this is filmed and give you guys some more detail. As much as I hate to say it, talking about bad video games is really fun and my "bad game" videos seem to be what people like to see from me.

TL;DR version is this: After looking at my YouTube analytics, I'll be experimenting with releasing short videos (3-5 minutes) more often in hopes to get out more content and increase my "watch time." I'm excited about trying this new format because it's less daunting on me mentally and physically (hand pain) at the moment.

Also, I mentioned a few posts ago that I recorded some things when I was in CA to use for some Patreon only videos. Well, seems like I either accidentally deleted a lot of footage or I thought I was recording when I wasn't (this was only a few days after getting a new phone, lol.) I started editing together a video about my visit to the very first In-N-Out location and it's only like 30 seconds long so I fucked up. I might just turn it into a tik tok/reel but we'll see. If I do that I'll post it here first though and try to think of some other things i can record for you guys. Feel free to leave any requests for patreon videos!

Sorry for the novel but I just had a lot to say to you guys. Thank you SO MUCH for continuing to support my work and I truly appreciate each and every one of you. I recently hit 75,000 subscribers on my main YouTube channel and it's very surreal. Slow growth is still growth!

I'll be updating again soon and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Bye!

Oh, that's so cool that a fan made that for you. They really did do a nice job. I'm glad you shared it with everyone. It kind of inspires me to want to do something like that, but I've never tried my hand at video editing, so who knows. Happy and safe traveling!

Hey! Thanks so much for taking the time to write this. I’m so glad you enjoy the jaws video lol. Making shorter videos has been fun for me but longer ones will still pop up here and there. And a viewer made that compilation actually and let me post it! I thought it was cool haha. Thanks again for watching my stuff and for supporting my Patreon! I appreciate you and I’ll be releasing another video soon. I’m out of town so haven’t been streaming much but I’ll get back at it. Take care!

Hey, Erin! I don't know if you'll see this since it's in reply to an old update. But as I mentioned in the last stream I caught recently, I gave up Erin Plays for Lent this year since you're supposed to give up something that you really enjoy. 😉 So, I have had a lot to catch up on, & I was recently binge watching all of the shorts and short form videos you mentioned in this update. I'm sorry to hear that people have such short attention spans these days that they tune out after a few minutes of your longer videos. I absolutely love those videos, since you have such a great voice & wonderful personality. For example, I just rewatched your Jaws video again, & I wouldn't cut a minute of it. I especially love your whole bit about the "Jaws Expert". "I'm not a Jaws Expert. I'm very sorry. So, if that's what you were looking for today, this isn't the video for you..... Do you think there's anybody that calls themselves a Jaws Expert? I hope there is.... If that's you & you're watching, Hello. Hello, Sir, or Ma'am. Do you have a Captain's Hat? I just hope the Jaws Expert, the NES Jaws Expert, he better be wearing a Captain's Hat. That's my fantasy." Sorry for typing all of that out, but every second of it was gold! 🤣 That whole bit always cracks me up. All that being said though, you are doing a great job with the new short videos. They do flow really well. I especially enjoyed how you showed the old Nintendo Power tips in action in your Shorts. The Food Mascots video was great, especially seeing Spuds Mackenzie again! Your double entendre nurse outfit for the Probe video was a fun idea owing to your great sense of humor. And I was really intrigued by that rare Castlevania arcade game. I was totally unaware of that one's existence. Before I go, I also did see your Heartwarming Stream Moments video on your Extras channel, & I wanted to say that you knocked it out of the park picking some really great moments. I was smiling the whole time I watched it. 😀 Especially your T-Rex roar. Really nice touch capping the video with an encore of that. Anyways, time for my long winded self to wrap this up. Keep up the great work. I look forward to whatever else you have in the pipeline & hope to catch a livestream here & there. All the best to you as always!
