Moving Out | The Friday Update

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.

It's been a reasonably quiet week this week as myself and the whole team have had our heads down working on the next run of videos. But there's still been a lot going on...

My main focus has been to finalise the script for another "monologue" video in the vein of the Elon Musk/Nigel Farage/Twitter piece from last month. This time around, I'm using the much-remarked-upon conversation between Ezra Klein and Ta-Nehisi Coates to talk about how the internet has collapsed the "public" and "private" spheres.

We're very good at recognising the positives of this; and they are multitude. But, in the Klein-Coates conversation, and in the Trump administration's backlash against "Antifa", we can see hints of some of the less positive outcomes too.

We are also finally making moves to bring together a big video about the rise and rise of Testosterone Replacement Therapy ads online. This is the culmination of the best part of a year's work on and off. It's been a video that we've "bumped" working on a few times as more timely topics are coming up, but it's now entering post-production and I'm excited to get it out into the world!

We've also been making some moves on the next "big", documentary-style video which we'll be working on after the TRT video, which I think is going to be a great pre-Christmas treat!

The biggest shift which we've got ahead of us, however, is that, next week, we'll be moving into a small office space.

This has been something which has been in our sights for a while. Myself and my team all live pretty close geographically and so it's long been a bit odd that we work remotely. It also creates a lot of weird additional hurdles which waste a lot of time. Particularly, sharing files and reviewing drafts of edits takes so much longer when things have to be rendered out and uploaded.

While it might seem like a fancy luxury, then, I think it's going to be a real productivity boost for us all, and hopefully quality-of-life upgrade for everyone on the team to have a bit more separation between work and life.

We've got a lovely little room with just enough space for three desks and hopefully a little bit of wiggle room for the occasional bit of filming (although it's not that big so that would be tight). My plan is to have a big blackboard on the wall so we can do all our creative planning on that too.

Hopefully there won't be too many spillages and splinters as we move in and build desks etc. but it's an exciting next step!
