Back in the Groove | The Friday(ish) Update

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.

Regular readers of the Friday Update (whether it actually comes out on a Friday or not!) will know that this year has been pretty unique for me.

The steady schedule of bi-monthly or (more recently) monthly-ish videos I’m used to making was joined by a massive additional project in the form of my debut feature-length documentary Boomers.

But, now Boomers is out in the world on Nebula, we’re pivoting back to the basics.

Which isn’t to say I don’t have some veeeeeeeery exciting additional (and currently top secret) projects lined up for 2025…

…but, at the very least, I’m thankfully not doing quite as much travelling for the next few months!

Myself and Georgia, my editor, thus spent a bunch of this week planning out the next three months worth of videos (one of which is already well into production) and how we’re going to make them the best they can be.

We’ve got a real mix of stuff coming up.

Coverage of trends in right-wing politics. An investigation into some highly-controversial non-violent activism. And a deep-dive into some really important constitutional questions facing the UK over the coming six months.

I’m really excited to have some time to focus on pushing the boundaries of what we do in our videos. I want to try and shoot a lot more on-the-ground coverage, bag some more insightful interviews with experts, and generally attempt to make documentary-like work which is compelling to watch and thought-provoking long after the fact.

After a year of my focus being split across a huge range of projects, it's really exciting to have the headspace to really zone-in on how I can improve my writing, my presenting, and all the other ingredients that make my videos tick.

Experimenting with how to make better videos is, along with getting to spend lots of time researching and learning, one of my favourite parts of this job!

I’ll let you know what the next video is about in next week’s edition of the Friday Update. But, rest assured, we’ve got some pretty cool stuff on the up-next list!
