One More Video to Go! | The Friday Update
Added 2023-04-28 10:00:12 +0000 UTCWelcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.
What have I been up to this week?
Despite it being a Friday, the next few days are likely to be fairly busy for myself and editor Georgia. With two episodes already out, we’re currently putting the final touches to the third and final episode of Treason Fest 2023!
It has to be said that much of the work is in Georgia’s hands now. I’ve already filmed everything which needs to be filmed, so I’m mostly just offering feedback on drafts and suggesting changes. Which I always have mixed feelings about.
On the one hand, I love seeing the final product come together in the edit. It’s wonderful to see the script that I’ve spent weeks slaving over be elevated by some excellent editing and effects. Nevertheless, the process of asking Georgia to make multiple rounds of changes and tweaks to the drafts she sends over can make me feel really mean!
In the end, I guess it’s about striking a balance. I definitely want to ensure that the final product is in-line with my initial vision for the video. But, alongside this, I always want to leave space for Georgia to use her own skills and creativity also. Because properly collaborative approaches almost always lead to richer, more interesting creative outputs.
I’ll look forward to sharing the video with you when it comes out during next week!
And outside of work?
I’ve had a fairly relaxed week outside of work. Nevertheless, my partner had an exam on Wednesday morning which meant that I took some time to take her out to lunch to celebrate.
We went to a vegan restaurant which I’d not been to previously but had heard great things about. Neither of us are vegan but will occasionally try-out meat substitutes where we can. Recently, I’ve been trying to keep track of which substitutes are good and which less so in order that we can have them slightly more often (Quorn chicken nuggets and This Is Not Bacon are my current faves).
I had a kebab-style seitan wrap which I absolutely loved. It was really tasty and fresh and is definitely something I’d use for cooking at home. Let me know any other recommendations you’ve got!
What have I been reading/watching/listening to?
With the final episode of Treason Fest in post-production, I’ve been turning my eye to the next video. And, with that, has come new books to read. This week I’ve mostly been reading a terrible book; albeit one which seems to be essential reading for the topic I’m covering.
Without giving too much about the video away (I’ll reveal that in the next couple of weeks!), the book I’m reading is The Four-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. It’s a kind of self-help book meets get-rich-easy guide which forwards all kinds of claims about the differences it will be able to make in your life.
This is one of those books which is always on display in airports and train stations. In some ways, I feel like it’s been stalking me for much of my adult life. I’d always assumed it was going to be terrible. And, for once, I was actually right.
But more on that shortly!
That brings us to the end of this week’s edition of the Friday Update. I hope you’ve found it mildly insightful.
Thanks as ever for your generous support and I’ll look forward to updating you more next week!!
