Podcasts and Paine | The Friday(ish) Update

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.

What have I been up to this week?

It’s been an incredibly busy week or two here at Tom Nicholas HQ (not a real place)!

As some of you will have seen, last Friday, we launched my new podcast, Induction. Behind the scenes, this has meant a huge amount of sending draft edits of episodes, trailers and announcements back and forth between myself and my editor Georgia to get everything ready to release to the world.

This was all a tiny bit stressful. In fact, getting the YouTube channel page set up and ready to go was so to-the-wire that it was only ready about 3 minutes before I actually hit launch!

Alongside this, we’ve also been gearing up to release my next video which, as I’ve previously mentioned, is going to be the first in a mini-series we’re producing to tie-in with the coronation of Charles III.

The first video will probably have been released already by the time you’re reading this. It’s been a lot of pressure to get together but I think it’s looking really, really cool; there’s some fun costume and some brilliant effects that Georgia’s put together. I hope the history we’re exploring is interesting too!

Whether it’s the podcast or the Treason Fest mini-series, let me know what you think! It’s fun to be getting these projects that we’ve been dreaming up for so long out into the public!

And outside of work?

In terms of extra-curricular, this past weekend was Easter Sunday so I spent the days hanging out and relaxing with my partner’s family. I wasn’t entirely off-the-clock as my relaxing did mainly consist of doing research for Episode 3 of Treason Fest. However, I do enjoy reading and find the topics I research interesting, so I didn’t mind that at all!

It was mostly a sunny and warm weekend which meant that we were able to squeeze in a nice walk and a brilliant roast at a nearby pub. And, even when that sun gave way to rain on Tuesday, it was nice and cozy inside.

What have I been reading/watching/listening to?

This week, I finally got round to watching the second series of The White Lotus. For anyone who hasn’t watched it, The White Lotus is a comedy-drama set in an expensive, exclusive hotel chain. It follows an ensemble cast of incredibly wealthy people on their holidays.

The plot lines in the show are often very, very small and yet the characters are brilliantly drawn. Much like the Knives Out series or Succession, pretty much all the characters are terrible people. But it creates an incredible sense of tension in each scene; in a way that reminds me of the cooking scenes in The Bear.

A friend had recommended the show to me ages ago and I’m so glad I finally got round to watching it. It’s brilliantly funny and horribly sad at times, but mostly just populated with brilliant sets of characters and devastating relationships.

Definitely one to check out if you haven’t already!

That brings us to the end of this week’s edition of the Friday(ish) Update. I hope you’ve found it mildly insightful.

Thanks as ever for your generous support and I’ll look forward to updating you more next week!!
