Some of you will already know that the UK is currently in the midst of a devastating energy crisis in which bills have risen by about 400% in just a couple of years.

While much of the media commentary on the topic has focussed on the recent (and temporary) causes of these price spikes, I wanted to dig deeper. As such, in this month’s video, I explore how these latest instances of profiteering are merely a more concentrated, shameless version of trends that have become routine in the UK’s privatised energy system.

I really hope you find it interesting, enjoyable and maybe learn one or two new things!

I want to also acknowledge that, as I mentioned on the Discord server yesterday, this time around, I completely failed to get an Early Access version of the video out.

This was the result of several factors, at the core of which was that the video spiralled in terms of ambition and ended up being an incredibly intense project at all levels: from research to writing to editing. This had all kinds of knock-on effects when it came to making revisions to get the video looking as good as possible and the resulting amount of time it took to render and re-render everything.

I know lots of you are signed up to the Patreon simply to support my work. However, I do genuinely feel awful whenever I’m not able to deliver on any of the pledges.

We did try so, so hard to have it ready in time with many long days and late nights, but, in the end, it just wasn’t possible. And, unfortunately, the border economics of creating videos at this level meant not being able to delay the public release any further.

I hope those of you signed up to the Early Access tiers will understand. I’m certainly putting a lot of thought into how I can avoid this happening again in the future.
