Final Touches! | The Friday(ish) Update

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday(ish) Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.

What have I been up to this week?

These past 7-10 days have been incredibly full-on as we’ve moved into the final stages of making this upcoming video about energy privatisation. For the most part, I tend to maintain a pretty good work-life balance these days as I know that this has a positive impact both on my home life and on the quality of my work! Nevertheless, this past fortnight has involved throwing a lot of that to the side as we’ve been pulling together the final bits of what has turned out to be another extremely ambitious video.

I think the (very!) late nights and long days have been paying off though. It’s a very info-dense video and crams a lot in, but I’m hoping we’ve managed to keep it fun and accessible too. Georgia I particularly has been doing her best to work in some excellent visual gags to keep things light! I’ve included some stills below to whet your appetites!

The video is due to go out on YouTube on Friday of this week, and we’re going at full steam to have it out as early as possible for Patreon supporters at the relevant tiers. While it’s a really busy part of the process, it is really exciting to be gearing up for a release as there’s nothing more exciting that releasing a new video into the world!

And outside of work?

As mentioned above, I’ve had a very busy fortnight with work so there isn’t a huge amount to report in this section this week!

That being said, I have been managing to find time to feed my running habit. And that’s been becoming a lot easier lately as the days have begun to get a bit longer and the temperature much warmer. This past weekend, I had a wonderful run around a nearby river (well, it’s also next to a rubbish dump but I like to focus on the river bit) just as the sun was setting which was pretty special.

What have I been reading/watching/listening to?

This week, I finally got round to watching I Hate Suzie, a TV series co-created by Billie Piper and Lucy Prebble. It initially aired on Sky TV in the UK and I think on HBO is the US. I’ve been a fan of Prebble’s work for a long time as I really loved her play ENRON. I’d also heard a bit about I Hate Suzie on Twitter. Nevertheless, it took me a while to actually go and seek it out.

The broad pitch is that it’s about a celebrity whose phone gets hacked and whose nude photos appear online. But it’s a lot more than that. It plays around a lot with genre and Billie Piper’s performance is amazing. For very different reasons, it manages to induce the same kind of anxiety whilst watching it as I found The Bear did during its cooking scenes.

I believe there’s a second season that I’ve not had a chance to watch just yet but a definite recommend from me for season one at least!
