Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.
What have I been up to this week?
I’m gonna start this week’s edition of the Friday Update with an apology that I have run out of Monopoly references to title these blog posts with. I started a few weeks back with “Pass Go to Collect $200” but I have maybe finally run out of iconic catchphrases from the game? If you can think of any—let me know!
So, my Christmas special about Monopoly is very nearly done. It will hopefully be out in Early Access form for Patreon supporters at the relevant tiers in the middle of next week. Georgia, my new editor, has been working super hard on some really great animations for it which is really going to elevate it to the next level.
I’ve spent most of this week reading and writing in preparation for the next video. However, I did need to take some time away from my desk to hire some costume for a thumbnail photo. So, on Thursday, I headed down to the costume department at my local theatre and picked out this excellent Rich Uncle Pennybags costume…

And outside of work?
Last weekend, I had an incredibly relaxed couple of days. My partner was away and so I spent both Saturday and Sunday watching the World Cup Round of 16, reading and painting Warhammer. A friend and I are planning a game over Christmas and so I’m trying to get some more models painted for then!
It was really nice to take some time out and just do hobbies for a couple of days—although I did find myself doing a little bit of planning for a potential future project toward the end. So I obviously can’t be kept away from work for too long!
What have I been reading/watching/listening to?
Earlier this week, I went to the cinema to watch The Menu. The film is a sort-of horror film (although not a super scary one!) which follows some wealthy patrons at an extremely exclusive restaurant. It’s co-produced by Adam McKay and therefore, unsurprisingly, is a very, very thinly-veiled social commentary. Each of the patron represents a different faction within the super-rich and it explores various themes around conspicuous consumption and food.
It felt very influenced by Parasite, although doesn’t quite reach the same heights in terms of effect. It’s not my favourite film of the years but is definitely worth watching if you get the chance! I’d definitely be interested to hear what anyone else who’s seen it thought!
That brings us to the end of this week’s edition of the Friday Update. I hope you’ve found it mildly insightful.
Thanks as ever for your generous support and I’ll look forward to updating you more next week!!
