Luxury Tax | The Friday Update

What have I been up to this week?
As mentioned in last week’s Friday Update, the upcoming video about the secret history of Monopoly (which I’m hoping is going to make for a fun Christmas special!) is currently being worked on by my fantastic new video editor Georgia. I’ve just had a chance to look at some snippets this afternoon and it is looking great—the animation game is strong in this next one!
Whilst this has been going on, I’ve been getting ahead with some writing for my next couple of projects. In particular, I’ve been managing to get some great research done for my next video.
I don’t want to reveal the topic just yet. However, there are some extra challenges that come with my next video. Sometimes, there is a book or article that is able to serve as a guiding light for a video I’m making. At other times, I have to do *a lot* more piecing together of information from disparate sources.
This is one of those latter projects. As such, I’m jumping between lots of different sources. This is challenging in some respects as it can take a bit longer to get my head around things. But it’s also a lot of fun as I feel like I’m doing some good, challenging work!
I’m hoping that it’s going to make for a really interesting video that dives into some really important “real world” politics in a fun way!
And outside of work?
It’s beginning to look a little bit like Christmas here. Not *a lot* like Christmas. But a bit. Mostly out of coincidence, I’ve found myself going to about three Christmas markets this week. Which has been nice. And I’ve picked up a few gifts for friends and family. We’ve not got a tree up yet but I am looking forward to doing so soon!
What have I been reading/watching/listening to?
This week’s recommendation is a real testament to one of the joys of the modern internet. Last week, I discovered a band on TikTok called Durry. And I’ve been really enjoying their stuff ever since. It’s one of those where I never would have found them in a pre-internet age as they’re half a world away but thought I’d throw over a recommendation!
