Editing, Editing, Editing! | The Friday(ish) Update

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Friday(ish) Update, in which I give a little insight into what I’ve been up to for the past seven days.

What have I been up to this week?

This week has been all about editing! Since filming my upcoming video the previous week, I’ve been spending my time trying to bring the script to life on the screen through archive footage and animation.

It’s been relatively straight forward this time around but there have been some aspects that have been a little fiddly. As you’ll see when I release the video, towards the beginning I talk about a bunch of tweets and making them look good on screen essentially involved recreating them using an After Effects template. Not a difficult job but a pretty time-consuming one!

When focussing on more historical aspects of a topic, there can also often be aspects where there isn’t so much footage available to use to visually articulate that moment in time. So, there are a few sections where I’ve had to get creative there. I think it’s looking good though!

The video is very nearly there now. All my editing is done, I’m just waiting for someone who is much better at audio-processing than me to make my voice sound lovely and ensure the background music is the right volume!

Patreon supporters on the Early Access tiers should expect to see it landing on their Patreon feeds very soon!

And outside of work?

It’s been fairly quiet this week outside of work. On Tuesday, I went to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock: The Musical (more about that below). It’s also been the “peak week” of the schedule I’ve been following in my training for a half marathon in a couple of weeks. So, I’ve spent a looooooot of time pounding pavements! Luckily, there have been some really gorgeous days weather-wise this week so it’s been lovely to run along the seafront and have the sea glistening back at me!

What have I been reading/watching/listening to?

On Tuesday, I headed to the theatre to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical adaptation of School of Rock. And… I can’t say I was a particularly big fan. It’s a slightly odd show in that it is very much trying to recreate the film. The actor playing Dewey Finn, for example, has clearly been given the task of simply doing a Jack Black impersonation.

There was definitely the occasional chuckle involved, however most of the enjoyment from watching the show came from remembering how good the film was. None of this was helped by the fact that the only real additions that the musical makes (the songs) weren’t particularly catchy or memorable at all.

That brings us to the end of this week’s edition of the Fridayish Update. I hope you’ve found it mildly insightful.

Thanks as ever for your generous support and I’ll look forward to updating you more next week!!
