Script Done! | Friday Update

Welcome back to another edition of the Friday Update!

A quick note about the November Patreon Q&A. I didn’t quite think about the timing of it this time around and have realised that I really need to be focussing on the production of the next video. So, I’m afraid I’m going to postpone it a little. Nevertheless, I will launch straight into doing another Q&A after this video is done and out!

What have I been up to this week?

This week, my attention has been split between finishing the script for the next video and preparing to shift into filming mode. I’m pleased to say that, after more than a month of research, reading and writing, the script is now done. I’m likely to give it one more read-over on Monday morning but I’m really happy with it and looking forward to bring it all to life through filming and editing!

The plan for filming is pretty complex this time round. It’s going to involve many different costumes (one item of which you can see below) and sets. As such, I’ve also been spending some time this week making sure I’ve got all the kit, costumes and props ready to go. In the past, I’ve tended to leave this until the script is completely done which has meant having some wasted, “dead” time between writing and filming.

I’ve had so many different packages arriving this week that it’s been a bit like living in a sorting office. Nevertheless, the props and costumes are now all ready to go. I’ve also been finishing off some of the audio treatment of the room I do most of my filming in which I’m hoping is going to make a noticeable difference to the audio in the video.

I’m about to go away for the weekend to run a half marathon. On Monday, however, things will pick up pace as filming begins!

And outside of work?

Alongside writing, I did manage to find some time to enjoy myself this week. On Tuesday, I popped to visit my Gran. She used to live really close by but, a few months ago, moved to a residential home about an hour and a half away. It was really lovely to see her and to catch her up on everything I’ve been up to.

One evening, my partner and I also went to a Christmas market to pick up a few gifts for friends and family. It feels like everything’s started to suddenly get a bit more festive recently. I’m not a fan at all of the short days and dark nights so that’s been a nice uplift!

What have I been reading/watching/listening to?

As I’ve been getting towards the end of writing this video, my mind has begun to shift towards what I might work on next. So, I’ve naturally been doing a tiny bit of reading about potential new topics. I always find myself torn between many different ideas at this stage, but there’s certainly a couple of front runners which I’ll have to force myself to choose between soon!

Outside of this, as well as continuing to be obsessed with Dopesick and Succession, I’ve just started watching Peter Jackson’s Get Back documentary about the creation of The Beatles’ app Let It Be. It’s a really fascinating insight into the creative process of the later-era Beatles. Particularly given how this era is often framed as one of competing egos, it’s particularly great and heartwarming to see the collaboration in their creativity. It’s all quite slow-moving but, because of that, I’ve found it to be a really relaxing watch!

That brings us to the end of this week’s Friday Update. Next week I hope to be able to tell you about how much filming I’ve managed to get done and the beginnings of editing!

Thanks as ever everyone for your generous support!
