Hey all!
After a bit of time off over the Christmas break to polish-off my PhD, I've spent the past couple of weeks deep into researching and writing my next video. As ever, I wanted you to be the first to get an insight into what it's about...
We're going to be looking at so-called "cancel culture". Ever looking for a unique angle on things, I decided that we'd see if we can find some similarities between anxieties over "online mobs" in present day and physical mobs in the 19th century. The video therefore dives into the history of the idea of "the mob" and considers why it emerged and what ideological work it sought to do before bringing things back around to see what that might tell us about more recent conversations about online "cancellations".
I think it's gonna make for a really fun video. Alongside the ideas-y bit, I'm also working on a slightly silly narrative thread which will be interspersed throughout to keep things interesting!
I'm a few days off finishing the script and then will begin filming. It's a really ambitious project with multiple guest appearances but should still be out for early February (and a little bit earlier for those of you signed up to the Early Access tiers).
Thanks to everyone for sticking around whilst I've taken a break. It's been really good to have some time to have a bit of a reset and to make some plans for the coming months. I'm hoping this video is gonna mark my return with a bit of a bang!
I hope you're all safe and well. Thanks as ever for your generous support!
Tom
