250 Patrons and New Video Progress...
Added 2020-11-23 18:11:17 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
I hope you're all safe and well!
We recently crossed 250 patrons signed up on here which is really exciting. It's so humbling to know that so many people get something out of my videos to the point where they're willing to contribute to their creation.
I've just ordered some new lighting equipment and a new microphone which will hopefully improve my videos (and will, for various reasons, make things a little easier behind the scenes whilst filming). Such kit is fairly pricey and would be impossible to purchase without Patreon support so thank you once again.
I'm also currently putting the final touches to the script for my next video. We're going to be looking at "shitposting" and considering why the posting of (and engagement with) inane, nonsensical and otherwise "shit" content online might have experienced such a rise in popularity in recent years.
Having focused primarily on creating episodes of What the Theory? in recent months, it's exciting to be back in the territory of writing more exploratory video essays in which I'm less tied to explaining the ideas of others and focussed more on using those ideas to forward argument of my own (although I think the division between these two types of video might be more apparent in my own head than it is when you're watching them!).
My hope is to have the script finished by Wednesday in order to film on Friday. A long weekend of frenetic editing will then follow and I'm planning on having it out for Early Access during next week at some point.
I'm currently switching over to a new editing software so that may cause the editing to take a little longer than usual, although it's a slightly shorter and less technically complex creation than my last couple of videos so we'll see.
I tend to give myself a really hard time about how long it sometimes takes me to put my videos together but feedback from my last couple of releases suggest that people would rather wait an extra few days and get something with a bit more polish than be presented with a rush-job.
Thanks as ever for your generous support!
Tom

Thank you Stefen, I really appreciate you saying that! And I'm very glad you've found some of my stuff thought-provoking, I'll do my best to keep it that way!

2020-11-25 18:48:04 +0000 UTCI appreciate the efforts you put into these videos. I know that I don't mind waiting a little bit for it to be more polished. That and you also need to have time to decompress (maybe this is decompression?) from life. Thanks for the sharing and thought provoking materials.
