The new video is beginning to come together so I thought I'd reveal a little more about it...
We're going to take a look at the news media through the lens of both Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky's book Manufacturing Consent and Stuart Hall's work on representation.
Rather than look at anything surrounding elections or similar, I'm going to be using as a case study the video linked above which was part of the BBC's recent reporting on refugees crossing the English Channel. One reason for doing so is that it ties in really well with some of the case studies included in Manufacturing Consent and the other is that its "biases" work in a slightly subtler manner than other examples I could have used which I think helps to articulate some of the ideas in a much deeper way.
I don't know whether it will be a runaway hit(!) but, as it stands, I think it's going to be a relatively good video which I think takes a much deeper look at Manufacturing Consent than I've seen any other videos do.
I feel like it's taking ever so slightly longer than previous videos but it's a book (and topic more broadly) that I've had lots of requests to cover so I'm keen to get it right. I hope everyone understands. Hopefully the added time will show in the final product.
I also had to take a day off of working on it this week to make some final amends to my PhD thesis which I should be submitting early next week!
I hope you're all really well, thanks as ever for your generous support!
