Rogue Two Part 2

Oy, this one has been a struggle. A laptop crash almost lost us a section of this episode, and I had to get some slightly scrambled files and un-rubik's them back into order. Two straight episodes we've had some technical difficulties getting to you. Thankfully we were able to get everything together and didn't lose any actual audio. Phew!

I'm a big fan of very open-ended worlds, where the players have a lot to explore, but Star Wars as a universe takes that to an extreme. It's not unique in taking place in outer space (space is big), but it is fairly unique in how populated with worlds it feels like it is, and in how without limits the hyperdrives are. I can put some limitations on them just for the sake of logistics, but you can't put too much restriction on it without starting to contradict the movies. That's one reason I keep my canon small. Only thing that's officially canon for this is Rogue One, although original trilogy is also 99% canon, but prequels, sequels, all novels and comics and audiobooks are out. Keeping the canon corralled is a must when it comes to Star Wars. There's too much canon otherwise, and it starts to get contradictory.

But with this story in my sights, I came upon the problem of infinite choice. They're going to be making hyperspace jumps, in which they are unconstrained. Do I list every planet in the galaxy? How do I make the choices meaningful without making them feel overwhelming. One thing is authentically to build out a lot of worlds, at least at a basic level. The other is to give a sense of direction and purpose to the individual worlds. The other is to edit down the choice section slightly so that it's a meaningful choice to the player, and feels meaningful to the audience, but they're not sitting through a ton of description and debate.

Anyway, loving Rogue Two. Hope you're enjoying it as well.

Comments

Yeah, technical problems. Sorry about that. The episode finally went up yesterday in case you haven't seen it. Getting the issues ironed out.

The Film Reroll

Hey, Paulo and gang, thank you for your hard work. Was the episode supposed to be attached to this post? Or is it still on it's way?
