Memento

Memento. It's up. Part 1. I did it.

The last week and a half has been me stitching the whole thing together and looking at it backwards and forwards, trying to figure out if the thing I made over the course of two or three months with the collaboration of a score of amazing artists and performers, actually works as intended. A ton of work went into this story, and from the beginning my intention, and the focus of a ton of my energy, was in releasing it in backwards order like the movie. But I also didn't want to end up putting something out that was confusing and off-putting because of the concept. I was fully willing to just put the thing out in chronological order if I thought it was better that way. And after listening, and thinking about it a lot, I think it works. I was brave and put it out backwards. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Suffice it to say, this episode nearly killed me.

I'm mostly kidding.

Of course a lot of the issues this week in the edit were the typical editing things, except more of them. Sound challenges, but more of them because every chapter has a different mic and different sound issues. I normally don't deal with those, but since I decided to edit these ones myself, I remembered how annoying it is when you have sound issues and have to comb through everything trying to fix them. I need to remember to thank my regular editors.

But now that it's up (well, at least part 1 is), I've gotta say I'm really happy with it. I have no idea if anyone else will like it, I may be too far inside it to be able to see it from the outside, but whatever. I stand by it. I don't think I've ever heard of a story, made through improv, that is meant to be told backwards. I've had a very unique creative experience, and when you've made something that you don't know of anything else like it, well, sometimes you just have to be proud of that.

I have a lot more thoughts about the ideas that went into making this, and the lessons that were picked up along the way. But I'll leave that to another post. I have to leave something for the next episodes, and I think it'll be easier to talk about this thing once you guys have heard more of it.

Bravo! I loved this episode! You guys are really utilizing podcasting as a unique medium. Every scene feels like a cliff hanger. Hearing the cast play the same character creates interesting meta intrigue too.
