Oceans 11: Danny and Rusty's Contact lists
Added 2020-04-21 17:22:28 +0000 UTCThought you guys might enjoy the full lists of contacts that Jon and Joz got to make their plan based off of. Below is what I sent each of them.
What I sent Jon:
Below is a list of your contacts. Rusty will also have a list with significant overlap to yours. His list is a bit bigger and more up to date, since you’ve been in prison for two years. He will also have information on how hard people will be to find/convince. You can make as many recruitment efforts as you like, but each attempt carries a small risk of the plan being discovered, so it’s probably best to minimize the amount of people you talk to.
The numbers reflect your opinions of people, not objective reality. Joz will have slightly different numbers in Rusty’s contacts list to reflect your differences in opinion:
T: How much do you trust them, 1-10
S: How skilled do you think they are at their main expertise, 1-10
C: How competent do you think they are at various incidental scam skills you might need, 1-10
Con-men: A con-man knows how to get things out of people. You’re a con-man. For this kind of big operation, con-men provide a breadth of skills: planning, casing a joint, remembering names and faces, thinking of details, convincing people of things, knowing how to be in the right place at the right time. Conmen fill in all the little rolls as they know how to not be noticed or how to not be remembered. For this group, there is no S score, as con-men are generalists, not specialists.
Rusty Ryan: Your collaborator on pretty-much every con you’ve done. All around guy with skills in every type of con. You guys are a well-oiled machine and you can’t imagine pulling the job without him. T:10 C:8
Kevin Kane: Ex-magician. Good sleight of hand skills. Knows how to make an illusion. Knows how to deceive people. Decent face-man as well. T:6 C:8
Jeremy Quinn: Confidence trickster you know from down in Florida. Knows every trick of the trade and has an almost preternatural ability to get what he wants out of a mark. It’s not that you don’t trust him, but his problems with drugs give you some pause. T:5 C:9
Bobby Caldwell: Used to be a great con guy, excellent hands and could play face as well, graduated to running his own complex operation in Chicago. His expertise would be great on this, but you don’t think he’ll be willing to leave his empire to join your con. He employs a lot of different criminals, though. So he’s a resource for finding reliable guys with skills you need. T:8 C:8
Frank Catton: Old friend of yours. Classic con-man. Knows the tricks of the trade but not really a top guy. His cousin was in prison with you and told you he’s working at a casino in Atlantic City that you know is co-owned by Benedict’s company. If he can get a transfer to the Bellagio that gives you a very valuable man on the inside. T:8 C:6
Travis Love: Big smile and down-home southern charm, he’s half-way a face man himself. But he’s most valuable to you for his general all around skills, and for his ability to get people to work together effectively and manage big personalities to help them get along. T:8 C:7
Marvin Warren: Like you, he has a penchant for over-elaborate grifts with multiple layers of deception and moving pieces. Great on the fly, when a plan with a lot of moving pieces needs to adapt suddenly to new circumstances. T:7 C:7
Face-men: A lot of overlap with con-man here, but face men are specialists in the interpersonal. You use a face-man for a character who’s gonna stick around and be noticed.
Saul Bloom: Legendary con-man who’s been doing it for forty years. No one’s better playing face for scams. Taught you and Rusty most of what you know. T:9 S:9 C:10
Ariana Valverde: Femme fatale type who is an expert manipulator, can wind men around her pinky finger in seconds flat. T:6 S:9 C:7
Rowan Davies: British ex-army intelligence. Plays face very well and brings a variety of other con skills. Incredible at figuring people out. Can memorize the layout of a room with a glance. Decent at rigging explosives. T:7 S:7 C:9
Jacque Perron: Mainly an art thief, but a great guy to call if you need someone to blend into high society or seduce an old rich lady. Best guy at playing rich and eccentric gentlemen. Has a fluent understanding of arts, finances and literature. Speaks 12 languages and can do any accent at will. T:7 S:8 C:6
Wheels: Drivers, or cars or otherwise.
Jamie Donelson: Best driver you know. Drove formula 1 in his youth. The things he can do with a car are unbelievable. If you’re relying on him to get you out, he’ll get you out. T:8 S:9 C:4
Virgil Malloy: Driver with a tech background and good all-around scam skills. Real good with remote controlled vehicles. Comes as a matched set with his brother Turk. Very reliable, but a bit annoying. T:7 S:6 C:7
Turk Malloy: Good driver with good all-around scam skills. Comes as a matched set with his brother Turk. Very reliable, but a bit annoying. T:7 S:7 C:7
David Hamilton: Ex-navy helicopter pilot. Not a very experienced con-man, but you trust him and he has access to a helicopter. T:8 S:8 C:4
Oliver Morgan: Ran wheels for you a couple times. Decent guy, ok driver, nothing special . . . until you learned he knows how to pilot several classes of aircraft. Since then you’ve been keeping him in mind in case that skill comes in handy. T:7 S:7 C:6
Explosives:
Phil Turentine: Best-in-the-biz munitions guy. His quickness and control of explosives to selectively disable security opens up a realm of possibilities of how to break into secure areas. He’s also a quick-witted con-artist and a master chef. T:7 S:9 C:8
Basher Tarr: Explosives guy with a side of tech. He’s not subtle, and has a go-big-or-go-home approach that can make you nervous. T:7 S:8 C:5
Muscle:
Chris Stockton: Ex-military, ex-cop. Muscle, guns, intimidation, interrogation. Classic hard-man. T:7 S:9 C:6
Bruiser Rowley: Serious muscle. Does security in Vegas so he might come in handy, but he’s just not smart and competent to pull a big job like this. T:8 S:9 C:1
Tech:
Livingston Dell: Best tech guy you know. Surveillance expert with wizard-like ability to quickly and precisely take control of any system he gets his hands on. Naturally nervous guy who can panic under pressure, making you wonder if he might be a liability if things get bad. T:7 S:10 C:3
James Kwak: Rich ex-tech entrepreneur who now hacks for fun and thrills. Good computer guy also is an excellent driver and is pretty good at face work in a pinch. Could be a source of funding if Reuben is a no-go. T:6 S:7 C:7
Other:
Isaac Ceasar: Incredible make-up guy. Can transform people’s appearance spectacularly well, change their age, gender, ethnicity. T:8 S:9 C:3
Brandon Marsala: Incredible photographic memory comes in handy in a lot of cases. Made a lot of money winning at blackjack by card-counting so knows his way around a casino. Also a top-notch counterfeiter. Very OCD, can get in the way sometimes. T:7 S:8 C:7
Dan Aprahamian: Expert lockpicker and safe-cracker. Completely unflappable under pressure. T:8 S:9 C:6
Susie Aurora: Chemicals. You’ve heard she uses some chemical cocktail to open up the suggestibility in people’s brains and get information out of them. You’ve never worked with her but people who have swears she can break anybody and they’ll thank her for it. T:? S:9 C:5
John Bestoso: Incredible sniper can put a bullet between a guys eyes at two-hundred yards. Now, you don’t want to kill anyone, but in the past you’ve had him put a tranquilizer dart in a guy’s butt and knock him out from three buildings down. T:6 S:9 C:6
Reuben Tishkoff: Security expert and likely bankroll for the operation. Hates Terry Benedict and you think he will front the expense just based on that. Also he owes you. If this falls through you know other ways to get money but knowing Reuben he’ll be in. Without his money and expertise, all of this becomes way harder. T:8
Your sister: Nope. Don’t do it. T:4 T:10 C:9
What I sent Joz:
Below is a list of your contacts. Danny will also have a list with significant overlap to yours. You can make as many recruitment efforts as you like, but each attempt carries a small risk of the plan being discovered, so it’s probably best to minimize the amount of people you talk to.
The numbers reflect your opinions of people, not objective reality. Jon will have slightly different numbers in Danny’s contacts list to reflect your differences in opinion:
T: How much do you trust them, 1-10
S: How skilled do you think they are at their main expertise, 1-10
C: How competent do you think they are at various incidental scam skills you might need, 1-10
D: Difficulty in trying to find/recruit them (1-10, higher number is bad in this case)
Danny Ocean: Your collaborator on pretty-much every con you’ve done. Master planner with clean skills in every aspect of conning. He’s the best, but he’s too emotional, it’s rarely about the money for him. You guys are a well-oiled machine and you almost can’t imagine pulling a job without him. Has been in prison for the last two years after the masks job went sour when he tried to sell them to the wrong guy. T:10 C:8
Kevin Kane: Ex-magician. Good sleight of hand skills. Knows how to make an illusion. Knows how to deceive people. Decent face-man as well. T:6 C:8 D:4
Bobby Caldwell: Used to be a great con guy, excellent hands and could play face as well, graduated to running his own complex operation in Chicago. Helped teach Danny how to con. His expertise would be great on this, but you don’t think he’ll be willing to leave his empire to join your con. He employs a lot of different criminals, though. So he’s a resource for finding reliable guys with skills you need. T:7 C:8 D:9
Frank Catton: Old friend of yours. Did a couple jobs with you back in the day. Not a top talent but real reliable. T:8 C:6 D:2
Travis Love: Big smile and down-home southern charm, he’s half-way a face man himself. But he’s most valuable to you for his general all around skills, and for his ability to get people to work together effectively and manage big personalities to help them get along. T:8 C:7 D:3
Omar Kandin: Algerian former desert pirate now does high-level con work. Great connections. Great con skills. Very diverse knowledge set. Hard to find, and not easy to persuade to join a job. He’s a high-roller in the world of crime and you happen to know how to get to him. High risk, high reward gambit to bring him in. T:4 C:9 D:8
Face-men: A lot of overlap with con-man here, but face men are specialists in the interpersonal. You use a face-man for a character who’s gonna stick around and be noticed.
Saul Bloom: Legendary con-man who’s been doing it for forty years. No one’s better playing face for scams. Taught you and Danny most of what you know. Retired and out of the game as of last year because of ulcers. T:9 S:9 C:10 D:7
Ariana Valverde: Femme fatale type who is an expert manipulator, can wind men around her pinky finger in seconds flat. In fact she did the same to you a couple years ago. Still, no denying she’s good. T:5 S:9 C:7 D:4
Rowan Davies: British ex-army intelligence. Plays face very well and brings a variety of other con skills. Incredible at figuring people out. Can memorize the layout of a room with a glance. Decent at rigging explosives. T:7 S:7 C:9 D:3
Athon Markew: Markew is a different kind of face man. Not an actor type who disappears into characters, he’s a former psychologist who deeply understands how to read and manipulate people. He blends modern understanding of the brain with old-fashioned parlor style “mentalist” and “hypnotist” tricks to take people’s money and make them think it was their idea. T:6 S:8 C:6 D:3
Ben Saint-Saens: Usually likes to work alone, but will occasionally join a squad if the payout is big enough. Good all-arounder but his specialty is confidence work. Best guy you know to befriend and get into the confidence of a target. T:7 S:8 C:8 D:6
Samuel Rollins: Used to be an actor and author. Very weird guy, gets plastic surgery periodically to make sure his look doesn’t get made. Incredibly gifted at face work but can get a little too into his characters. T:5 S:9 C:6 D:5
Connor Heartley: Big overweight guy with a larger than life personality. An absolute artist at playing dumb guys and creating havoc by “accident”. Master at distractions and improvisation. For all his aww-shucks charm, one of the keenest minds you know. T:8 S:8 C:8 D:4
Wheels: Drivers, or cars or otherwise.
Jamie Donelson: Best driver you know. Drove formula 1 in his youth. The things he can do with a car are unbelievable. If you’re relying on him to get you out, he’ll get you out. T:8 S:9 C:4 D:5
Virgil Malloy: Driver with a tech background and good all-around scam skills. Real good with remote controlled vehicles. Comes as a matched set with his brother Turk. Reliable, but a bit annoying. T:8 S:6 C:7 D:1
Turk Malloy: Good driver and car mechanic with good all-around scam skills. Comes as a matched set with his brother Turk. Reliable, but a bit annoying. T:8 S:7 C:7 D:1
Hans Golden: High stakes delivery courier. Driver with a top-notch reputation and really good security skills. Knows how to de-escalate a situation but is not afraid to put a guy down if he thinks he’s a threat. Will do any job for the right price. T:7 S:8 C:6 D:3
Simon Ward: Former bank robber. You’ve only seen him be wheels for operations, and he’s competent at that, but he has a bigger skill set. His background is more guns-out-smash-and-grab, but his criminal connections and know-how can come in handy. T:6 S:7 C:7 D:4
David Hamilton: Ex-navy helicopter pilot. Friend of Danny’s. Has access to a helicopter. T:7 S:8 C:4 D:?
Explosives:
Phil Turentine: Best-in-the-biz munitions guy. Died of skin cancer. R.I.P. You slept with his wife. You feel kind of bad about this. T:8 S:9 C:8 D:10
Basher Tarr: Explosives guy with a side of tech, particularly hardware. He’s not subtle, but he gets the job done. Also has done tunnels before. Currently on another job, so might be hard to get. T:8 S:7 C:5 D:7
Nibby “Boom Boom” Sanders: Real mastermind with creative explosive and demolition set-ups. She may be good, but she’s off her rocker and just likes big explosions. T:5 S:8 C:4 D:3
Muscle:
Chris Stockton: Ex-military, ex-cop. Muscle, guns, intimidation, interrogation. Classic hard-man. Can be hard to find if he doesn’t want to be found. T:7 S:9 C:6 D:6
Wyatt Langendorf: Australian outbacker has done security for operations for years. Good at jobs that require a bit of subtlety: disable rather than kill. Lot of random outdoorsy skills (tracking, camo, stealth) that may come in handy and most security types don’t have. T:8 S:8 C:6 D:3
Gordon Lender: Ex-military communications. Does security for operations like this. Big muscly enforcer with good military operations and logistics skills. Good friend of yours who owes you after you saved his butt on a previous job. T:8 S:7 C:7 D:2
Inga McAstrid: Not a hand-to-hand fighter, but great for more subtle types of security. Can blend in while making sure to keep her target secure. Knows how to intimidate without making a scene, and how to disable a target with a quiet tranquilizer without people around her knowing what happened. Also a weapons expert with access to all sorts of illegal munitions if you should need them. T:8 S:7 C:8 D:4
Miles Heasley: 5’3”, 135 lbs, nebbishy dude who looks about as much like a security expert as Danny looks like Aretha Franklin. But Miles is a master of six different martial arts. His thick glasses are fake, his ill-fitting dress-shirts are to conceal his muscular frame. All this is to make people underestimate him, but it also makes him more able to blend in than most hulking behemoths who run security. Only problem with him is his refusal to commit violence except in self-defence. That actually is fine in most operations, but the occasional grey-areas can paralyze him in moral indecision. Luckily his morals don’t seem to have a problem with theft. T:8 S:8 C:7 D:6
Tech:
Livingston Dell: Absolute best software guy in the biz. Surveillance expert with wizard-like ability to quickly and precisely take control of any system he gets his hands on. Naturally nervous guy who can panic under pressure, you would never have trusted him on a big job before but he’s been getting the nerves under control. Currently doing surveillance for the FBI and itching for a new challenge. T:8 S:10 C:3 D:1
James Kwak: Rich ex-tech entrepreneur who now hacks for fun and thrills. Good software guy also is an excellent driver and is pretty good at face work in a pinch. Could be a source of funding. T:6 S:7 C:7 D:5
Paul Duncan: Software guy who also does some pretty good hardware, and has designed drones and robots for other operations. Good guy, but his gambling addiction makes him a liability. T:6 S:7 C:7 D:2
Lina West: Hacker you’ve known for a while. Total troublemaker Has never run a big operation before, but real good at cracking security systems. She also happens to be the daughter of the third richest man in the world, so her high-society connections are sometimes an incredibly important asset. T:7 S:6 C:6 D:1
Other:
Isaac Ceasar: Incredible make-up guy. Can transform people’s appearance spectacularly well, change their age, gender, ethnicity. T:7 S:9 C:3 D:5
Brandon Marsala: Incredible photographic memory comes in handy in a lot of cases. Also a top-notch counterfeiter. Very OCD, can get in the way sometimes. T:7 S:8 C:7 D:3
Dan Aprahamian: Expert lockpicker and safe-cracker. Completely unflappable under pressure. T:9 S:9 C:6 D:4
Junior Hartman: Infiltrations. You need stealth. You need a laser grid danced through. This is your guy. One of the best old-fashioned thieves. Doesn’t like lying, though. And that’s a weird attribute for a thief. Can lose his patience with conning, and would always rather sneak in through sheer skill. T:7 S:8 C:2 D:6
The Amazing Yen: Incredible acrobat, works in a literal circus. Apparently had some mob connections back in China and came to this country to get away from it but got bored eventually. You’ve never worked with him, but Gordon Lender told you he was trustworthy. You’ve talked to him and he seems legit to you. Only problem is he speaks almost no English, luckily you can understand Cantonese. T:7 S:8 C:2 D:3
Susie Aurora: Chemicals. She uses some chemical cocktail to open up the suggestibility in people’s brains and get information out of them. T:6 S:8 C:5 D:4
John Bestoso: Incredible sniper can put a bullet between a guys eyes at two-hundred yards. Now, you don’t want to kill anyone, but in the past Danny’s had him put a tranquilizer dart in a guy’s butt and knock him out from three buildings down. T:5 S:8 C:6 D:4
Brian Quezada: Former stunt man, adrenaline junkie who gets his kicks with danger. If you need a complex drop or a dangerous jump done, he’s your guy. He’s jumped out of planes to infiltrate buildings. He’s also an awesome driver and a pretty good fighter. Not the guy you want where subtlety is needed. T:6 S:8 C:5 D:3
Mo Cohen: A guy you use to move difficult to move stolen merchandise. Used to be a decent con-man before he figured out his core competency was in running underground markets. Not sure you’d want him on a job, but he’s a guy who knows people. If you’re trying to get in touch with someone who can’t be got in touch with, you talk to Mo. T:5 S:6 C:4 D:4
Roman Nagel: Master of technical logistics and hardware: Lasers, magnets, sensors, holographics, you name it. Can build you custom technical tools for the right price. Also a half-decent all-around tech guy in a pinch. T:6 S:8 C:2 D:2
Debbie Ocean: Danny’s sister. She’s a good thief, but she and he don’t get along. Also you slept with her. Just one time. And Danny wouldn’t like any of that. Also, you don’t really know if she’s a good thief. And you don’t know if you trust her. But she’s a good thief, you hear. Probably not a good idea to call her. T:4 S:? C:? D:?
Bora Sanchez: Former convict knows his way around an operation like this. His main expertise is tunneling, but he’s a competent criminal all around. His tattooed face and his record make him unideal for any face work. T:7 S:8 C:6 D:3
Reuben Tishkoff: Ex-hotelier with deep pockets and a friendly attitude towards thieves. Owes you a favor. T:8
Comments
Danny had been in prison, so he didn't have much up-to-date knowledge of what everyone was up to. As such, he couldn't intuit estimates of how hard it would be to get people for the plan.

2020-04-22 14:51:05 +0000 UTCSo was ocean himself not concerned about how difficult the recruitment would be? Joz got that number but that's it, was that just like an oversight? I need this knowledge it's critical lore.
