Help with YOUR cosplays.

I've came up with a new recipe!
It's about you. This new series will happen each day of the month for you only. This Patreon has become a secret group over time, that makes you special. I believe it feels this way. ;)

As you know, we have been doing our own cosplays from A to Z since we started. We've never bought any costumes, never accepted sponsorship. We've learned how to do everything on our own because it's a passion.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, if you need us, don't be shy to ask so we can help you with your current cosplay project. This topic close after 24 hours from now. ;)

(Here are some examples: "which circles lenses to use for my Cloud cosplay?", "which wig color of wig should I use for Ignis?", "which paint is the best for my sword?")

Oh she might be quite a hard costume for beginners! But still beautiful:) About Aerith, you can easily find jacket and dress that you can alter ( like shorten up sleeves or add bias tape to the dress). She has very common clothes!

Kuja and LZ

Wow, that's impressive! I am currently working on Edna from Tales of Zestiria and I realized it may be a little above my skill level. I'm a big fan of Final Fantasy too, so I thought maybe Aerith would be a little easier!

Martine

You're welcome! ; )

Kuja and LZ

Thank you very much!

One way to figure this out and this is usually what I do, is to take the character image, look at how tall he is in his character sheet. Enlarge the image to his real size, crop the weapon out of the image, and note the height and width of it. Then you can use a proportion equation with your own height. You could also guess by comparing his height to the sword by just looking at the image. Does it arrive to his shoulder, if so, it should arrive to your shoulder too. Some characters have their character sheets. Another trick, you could draw a pattern on a long cardboard, cut it out, and test it in the mirror, to see if it feels right or wrong.

Thank you so much! I'll try my luck with the pvc sheets and see how it goes :D

Rhiannon Sherwood

What would you suggest as a ratio of blade length to height of a person in most cases, for a longsword? I'm 6 feet 3 inches tall (1.9 meters) and am not really sure what length the sword should be.

Agaures

Ummmm I should search for if mine should be ok

ValkyDesigns

I would make them from pine wood for solidity, there is also pvc sheets which is easy to cut and use. You can expect that attack on titan cosplayers is a very crowd community and you don't want them to break so easily. I would never recommend foam for such thin sword because it's too soft, too fragile. If you have anyone to help you with wood machines, I would go with that, it looks very beautiful when you polish it. I personally have my own wood machines too and I did all my guns and my swords from wood. Not accessible for everyone. The other options are more expensives: There is 3D printing, if you have 3D knowledge or making a clay model and molding them in sillicone. 4 good options. ;)

Kuja and LZ

You are welcome <3 Also it depends of sewing machine - a lot of them does not handle well those fabrics, especially the one with plastic insides ;/

Kuja and LZ

OK I have one! :3 I'll try again by going slower next time. Thanks honey!

ValkyDesigns

First of all, print a reference image of the size it should be according your height. Second, cut out from the paper, put the model on a plank of wood, can be pine, it's light, trace it with a pen, cut the shape out with your saw. You will have a pretty good base start.

Kuja and LZ

Oh the sticky ones - you can try to put baking paper between foot and fabric and then tear it out after sewing. Usually I clean it before if it's sticky! Leather foot looks like this : https://www.amazon.ca/Bazaar-Leather-Presser-Replacement-Brother/dp/B06XYH88F6/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1499649424&sr=8-10&keywords=leather+foot

Kuja and LZ

I'm working on an Attack on Titan cosplay, and I have most of the outfit down already, but I want to attempt to make the swords they use even though I've never made a prop before. What do you think would be the best material to make them out of?

Rhiannon Sherwood

Awesome!! Thank you so much!! I'll definitely give it a shot :)

Princess Lycoris

I have a couple of swords that I would like to make, but I'm not sure where to start. I am not sure if I should use wood, craft foam, or both. What have you two used in prop making, and do you have suggestions for patterning?

One of my most used wig style from Arda : https://www.arda-wigs.com/collections/medium-wigs/products/magnum-long-classic-cosplay-wig This one is perfect for brother Nier! Very easy wig. I did Cloud with it!

Kuja and LZ

Does it also depend on the quality of your vinyle? Because I feel like some are very sticky and it tends to not want to cooperate with me. And my leather foot you mean a walking foot?

ValkyDesigns

Z: I am self taught, and I learned just by books and destroying clothes and sewing it back together. Now internet have it all and there is tons of tutorials how to make simple stuff. Do you have any specific interest in some series or simply anything?:)

Kuja and LZ

Z: I use only leather needles and leather foot for machine - nothing else. The thing is to be slow with it, and don't pull the leather while sewing - let the sewing foot for leather push it. If you pull it too much while you sew, it creates foldings. Test first on a piece the lenght of stitch and the stitch tension - it's very important that those are set properly, it makes it much easier. Other than that I never have problems with leather/vinyl sewing.

Kuja and LZ

I'm working on a Pre-timeskip Brother Nier cosplay from Nier Replicant. What is a decent base wig I could start out with? I want to get something that'll be easy to spike for his bangs but also long enough to be able to do his weird bun in the back

Princess Lycoris

Learning how to contour your face, your nose to resemble your character is one of the most useful skill, copying your character's facial traits. Next to it, get comfortable with changing the shape of your eyes with your eyeliner, having a steady hand by repeating and repeating. The eyes are the most memorable thing about an anime character so you want them to be striking.

Kuja and LZ

Where is a good place to start when learning how to sew? Any easy cosplays or projects you'd recommend to built the foundations?

Martine

I've always struggle to work with vinyle and fake leather. So basically, how did you work on your Noctis/Sephiroth cosplay to make it so perfect? I've always had way too many issues with the material, specifictly with multiple layers.
