How many drugs was Stephen King on? All of them

I know it's no longer Spooky Month (rip) but I did see Doctor Sleep yesterday on Halloween. It's the sequel to The Shining and it was OK! Very strange, as expected with Stephen King stories, but some of the weirdest lost me.

I saw The Shining as a kid alone near Halloween so it's always close to my heart. This one is not the same, but still worth a watch if you're interested. I wouldn't say it's a straight horror film, but there are definitely some parts that were upsetting and dark.

I find it really difficult to give a recommendation like this. There are so many books and they cover so many different genres, despite him being regarded as a horror writer. I usually say go back to the start and just work your way through. The alternative is to try a novella or short stories. If you have seen any of his films i would definitely recommend reading the book too as they are usually better and different.

can I get a "first Stephen King book to read" recommendation?

As with all King stories, the boom wins every time over the films. My all time favourite author in all his styles of storytelling. I have read all his books at least twice, some considerably more! I do want to see this film though as i enjoyed the book.

I watched Joker. OK movie. Not something I'd really want to watch again. His laugh started getting to me so I can't imagine how Joaquin Phoenix felt playing the role. Some just get much to invested into the role! It reminds me of the Downtown East Side in Vancouver; the poorest neighbourhood in Canada. One spark is all that's need to set that area off.
