I think you were trying to keep with dictionary words here rather than slang but I do sometimes wonder if anyone else in the English speaking world says 'cheerio'. Also, what about the fillers that people use when they know they haven't expressed something properly "as it were" and "so to speak" which often get stuck on the end of a rather bumbled sentence in the style of a character from a Richard Curtis film.

Sorry, I can't find a word we use instead of peckish. I just think hungry is a word that doesn't need to be replaced and is used quite often to communicate peckishness. Lush isn't heard here, but "delish" is. Please keep making videos about the use of language, as long as there are things you haven't already covered. I enjoy hearing about the differences in the English language around the world.

Lush is short for luscious, Minted comes from the Royal Mint, the place where they print money...

A Quid is the old nickname for a Pound sterling (before Britain went to the decimal currency system). The smaller denomination Shilling (1/20 of a Pound) was nicknamed the Bob. It took a while to get used to it as an American tourist in those days.

With my parents being born and raised in India, the British language influence was large especially with pronounciations. Me growing up in Canada, they taught me what they learned and were a big influence with my language skills. I used some of those words and pronounced them the British way and people looked at me funny until I re-learned them in school. As well, having relatives in England, I still know, understand and use the words with them. Nice new setup and great video as always, Alanna!

AH, I forgot about Garage Sales! Not really popular in the UK, probably due to less garages/driveways?

Hi, Alanna, very interesting, you don't realise how much difference there is in day to day language. Enjoyed the live stream immensely although I missed it live. Whatever you do is great fun. Looking forward to your next video soon.

Car Boot Sale=garage sale, rummage sale, flea market; I actually use the words peckish and cheeky. I've heard the word lush used to describe someone who likes to drink a lot: she's a real lush. I frequently say Howyadoing? Or just Hi There! There are fast food seafood joints in California but they are not fish and chip places...the food tends to suck. Vocabulary in Canada and the US is fairly consistent. Good vid Alanna!
