Is there such a thing as a perfect movie?

If there is, it's probably Raiders.

When I was a kid (and adult) I wanted to be Indiana Jones so it's not surprising that I went and saw the remastered film at the cinema with the special screen (some kind of special lasers??) Either way, they have the reclining leather chairs and a giant Indie on the screen - so yes please.

While some of the scenes definitely do not hold up well with time (uh, the ending??) it's still one of my favourite movies and I can't help but smile when I watch it.

At that age mine was Disney's "In Search of the Castaways" probably tied with "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". Pure escapism I know.

My best friend’s uncle played the evil archaeologist Belloq. The one who shouts β€œJoooones” a lot. Really lovely fellow in real life though :)

Even though it hasn't aged well, it's still an all time classic in my books. I'm just happy Steven Spielberg didn't go back and replaced some of the dated pratical effects with CGI like one George Lucas did with the original Star Wars trilogy. Patiently waiting for Indy 5! Glad you had a great time!

Shadow of Light

Coincidentally, I've been an archaeologist for 45 years. I was wearing a fedora before Raiders. After the film came out, I stopped wearing it (I switched to cowboy hats) because it had become a cliche. In the late 90s, I switched back to fedoras. In the 1980s, I used Raiders in one of my college courses to illustrate what archaeologists do do in their work. Regardless, Raiders is a terr8f8c film, and I continue to watch the four Indy films to this day.
