They get special training here too. If you look under 30 you have to show your ID. My wife was asked for ID when she was 40ish! You have to be 20+ to buy alcohol in the shop, or 18+ to get served it in a bar.

2019-09-08 16:27:24 +0000 UTCI don't think it has to do with alcohol content, but I think there's some kind of deal between alcohol companies and the Ontario government. In Ontario, you can buy liquor, beer or wine from the "LCBO" (government-run liquor stores) and you can get more beer from "The Beer Store". They're starting to sell some wine in larger grocery stores but then cashiers have to do extra training to be allowed to sell alcohol, too. Think it's called "Smart Serve" Bartenders have to have it to sell alcohol, so now cashiers have to get that training, too.

Alcohol over 3.5% can only be bought from the government run alcohol shop here, which has limited opening hours. It shuts on Saturdays at 3pm & doesn't open again until 10am on Monday! Though of course you can still buy stronger booze from bars & restaurants as long as you drink it on the premises. Difficult to accept when you first move here, but you soon get used to it.

Don't worry about the sound of the insects it's the Canadian version of reversing lorries and low flying aircraft. That chair looked good a pity it wouldn't fit in your hand luggage.
