Twists! Music! Architecture!

On a recent Classic Movie Night I watched The Third Man from 1949. At first I thought: Okay, perfectly fine. Then we hit a decent twist and I think: Ooh, we're getting there. Then I ended up really enjoying it! The camera angles and artistic direction is beautiful - the architecture, the sets, the music, the cinematography, all wonderful.

For some reason, I find old films really hard to follow along with the dialogue sometimes - this one included - but overall, a great one!

The original Thirty Nine Steps is another one worth watch, and of course Casablanca., oh and The African Queen, and For an old gangster movie The Roaring Twenties, although when i say old i suppose a film like Chinatown is old now but also another brilliant film. I'll stop now, oh all right one more try We're No Angels.

As a Uni student many years ago I use to do classic Saturday afternoon movies on the sofa bed- to much drink, junk food the night before, late getting up if at all & watch the classic movies on BBC2 in bed like North by Northwest, The Maltese Falcon, Touch of Evil which has for the time a very long opening scene one camera, no cuts, effects, sweeping street shot - Classics are very restful without all the cgi. effects, explosions multiple cuts and camera angels all in 10 seconds.

Think it might be the language itself. In some ways it sounds more formalized than today's dialogue and the vernacular isn't all the same . I also speak "desi/street" Gujarati. If someone was to speak in formalized Gujarati to me, I would have a hard time understanding them for sure. Hey ho, just my opinion.

Shadow of Light

sorry u hated it:(

it's a real cracker. I still own my DVD copy along with a couple of other black & white classics.: 'High Noon' and 'On the Waterfront'
