Have I Got News For You

Canada doesn't really have comedy-news-panel shows like you have here in the UK. I think North America's version would be the news-comdey-late-night-talk-shows instead like Jimmy Kimmel, Real Time with Bill Maher, the Late Show with Steven Colbert, etc, etc.

Have I Got News For You is one of my favourites, always funny and interesting, even when it's a rerun. I like that shows like these have set members who are always there, but then add in additional new ones each show. I think the Brits have this down to a science!

I like those! I consider those more of late night talk-shows than panel shows, though.

Adventures and Naps

US has Last Week Tonight and The Daily Show. Last Week is hostd by Brit John Oliver. The Daily Show is hosted by South African Trevor Noah. Both excellent shows with Trevor often having guests.

well done Ian... I almost posted the Roy Hattersley story. Ian Hislop is Kent resident.

That's the word I was looking for ... "dry" rather than "dark".

Shadow of Light

We have a very “dry” sense of humour. Monty Python or going back older, the Two Ronnies and their sketches such as the Phantom Raspberry Blower and the World Run by Woman, we’re classic sketches.

Loved it since it started 30 years ago. It used to be really funny when they had the same presenter Angus Deaton, but he got sacked and they went down the guest presenter route. That person can make or break an episode. I think the best guest presenter is David Tennant. The best guest was a politician called Roy Hattersley, He agreed to go on, then heard he would get a roasting and pulled out. Instead of having another guest next to Paul Merton, they simply had a block of Lard on a plate as he was known as “Lard Arse” (he was chubby). Funny as hell!

British comedy, in general, has always had that cheekiness / dark humour to it from the likes of Monty Python, Benny Hill (no I'm not that old!), Mr. Bean and the original Who's Line is it Anyway. Canada would definitely benefit learning a thig or two from the Brits. :)

Shadow of Light

Showing my age, I went to see an episode of this show being recorded back in 1991 when the second season was being broadcast. I remember that the wonderful (even back then!) Sandy Toksvig was one of the guests and she had to have a cushion on her chair because she's so tiny. I'd definitely recommend going to see a live recording of one of these types of shows. The stuff that happens off camera is often just as funny as what gets aired. It's a really cheap and entertaining night out.

Agree, Have I Got News For You is a great show.
