Midsommar is absolutely not for everyone - in fact, I told my parents they probably shouldn't see it. It's wildly upsetting, beautiful and the more I think about it, the more I enjoy it (although "enjoy" is absolutely not the right word. Appreciate, maybe?)
Pros:
- The acting was incredible, the lead actress Florence Pugh was unbelievable!
- The music is a perfect match, upsetting and foreboding
- The camera shots, angles and direction were done extremely well
Cons:
- There's so many things that could have been expanded on but were forgotten
- You could always guess what was going to happen
- Too long, a good 30mins could be cut
If you liked the directors first film Hereditary, there's a possibility you'll like this one, too. Where Hereditary is dark, Midsommar is bright. While Hereditary is definitely scary, Midsommar is more of a thriller - not scary, but still a great film. I actually gave myself a headache by the end because I was clenching my teeth too much.
