So annoyingly I posted this one publicly this week - oops!

Patreon Vlog - Getting eaten by bears

fried in garlic butter. In other states I've encountered brown bear, I have seen at a distance mountain sheep. Animals are pretty interesting. I've been fortunate to work all over the western US, sometimes in wilderness areas, and this has given me lots of chances to see critters. California has some nasty spiders like black widow, brown recluse, and a species of tarantula. I bitten in the arm by a brown recluse. I ignored it and the venom ended up rotting tissue to the bone and infecting my lymph glands...nasty business! Oh...the national bird of the US is the bald eagle, which Theodore Roosevelt once called a dandified vulture!

In California, I've seen black bear, cougar, tule elk, Roosevelt elk, mule deer, antelope, grey fox, andnumerous small critters. I've killed a few dozen rattlesnakes, skinning one and using the skin and rattle for a hat band (we ate some of the meat

The state animal of California is the Golden Bear, which is really a subspecies of the brown or grizzly bear. This critter became extinct in the 1920s. We also have a state bird, the California quail, state amphibian the red legged frog, state fish the golden trout (a subspecies of rainbow trout), state marine reptile the Pacific leatherback sea turtle, state marine mammal the grey whale, state butterfly the dogface butterfly, and state reptile the desert tortise. We even have a state fissile, the sabertooth tiger.

Marmot is really just a fancy way of saying small groundhog or fat squirrel.

Had to Google Alpine Marmot - they're pretty cute, but I bet they've got a good bite..!

Foxes eat hedgehogs, maybe that is why you haven't seen any in the wild!

The national animal of Austria is a Black Eagle, kind of boring. What’s wrong with a beaver? It’s unique. I’d prefer the Alpine Marmot for Austria, pretty scary beasts!

Holger Steinwedel

Yes, USA is the Bald Eagle. The mammal for Texas is the Longhorn, the Armadillo and/or the Mexican Free-Tailed Bat depending on how far back you go. The Longhorn is probably the most widely known though.

Cheers Alanna! I never knew Scotland's animal was a Unicorn. I thought you were having a laugh but apparently not! Wales is also associated with a dragon - now that is cool! If you want to see deer and your visiting the Peak District, Chatsworth House is the place to go. They have herds roaming free in the grounds (which are quite extensive). You could technically go right up to them but not sure it's recommended! Scotland reintroduced Golden Eagles (7ft wingspan!) a few years ago, they are breeding so well that the farmers are complaining they are eating all their lambs - who would have thought...

We had bears and wolves but I think they were hunted to extinction here many centuries ago. Red squirrels can be found in parts of Scotland, they used to be widespread but I think grey squirrels arrived and brought a germ which killed many of them. Looking forward to your next video soon.

Badgers, of course!! How could I forget. Glad to hear you guys have some deer up there, too!

Adventures and Naps

You missed the mighty badger! We killed all our large predators as most of the country is farmed I reasonable regularly see deer walking in Hampshire and they are even more common elsewhere I knew it was the beaver which made your reaction even funnier

Simon
