Venice - meh!
Added 2019-01-07 19:00:02 +0000 UTCAs part of my old trip throwback, I visited Venice. Now maybe because it was peak time in the summer and it was a solid 90C, but I was really disappointed with Venice!
I'm glad I went - the canals are incredible and unique - but the city as a whole was meh. It was crowded, sweaty, smelly and dirty.
Maybe if I had the money, I'd go back during the autumn instead. But otherwise, Venice is one of the those cities that didn't live up to the image in my mind. Oh well!

Agree can be horribly overcrowded. Recommend May or June next time :) Best memories for me were visiting beautifully tranquil Peggy Guggenheim gallery and riding vaporettos up and down Grand Canal after several expensive Moretti beers!

2019-01-07 19:59:49 +0000 UTCI went during the winter a year ago and it was great. The city was mostly empty, so wandering around getting completely lost while looking at all the interesting buildings was good fun. I can definitely see why it wouldn't be as good in the summer with massive crowds though, since it is quite small.
