Scratch That Itch - Poser vs Daz Round 2

So, I've been messing around with DazStudio AND Poser 11.  Renderosity and Amazon were offering Poser 11 for about half what it originally went for and this also puts me in a good position to upgrade to Poser12, should I go that route.  Poser 11 also comes with new models, LaFemme, L'Homme, Dawn and Dusk. So I got to scratch that itch for new content, at least for now.

So here's one of my first Daz Renders:

It's not perfect, there's too much gloss on the skin, but it turned out really well in my opinion.  It took me about 10 minutes to create. DazStudio is like that if you stick to their products with premade morphs. It's literally, click and go.  The render itself took about 4 minutes on low settings and low resolution.  The image quality will get better as I practice more with the software. One downside I find with Daz, and perhaps I'm just missing the settings, is a lack of true customization.  I tried working with some of the Poser Characters I created within DazStudio, and the clothes were a mess and hard to fix. Basically, a lot of poke through and the Deform tool in Daz was not as user friendly as the Morph tool in Poser (again, in my opinion).

Working with Dawn in Poser proved very fruitful.  She's compatible with V4 Poses.  I converted some old V3 stuff to Dawn and started having a blast.

Here she is about to get molested by a Mind Flayer.  This was rendered in FireFly in Poser 11.  She's wearing a V4 top, V3 shorts and Antonia boots.  This image took a couple hours to make and the render took about 2 minutes with "medium" settings. But there's more...Poser 11 has a different render engine than my old Poser. The render engine is called SuperFly.  This is the Blender Cycles Render Engine, which is awesome.  I'm not sure it's any better than the Daz IRay Renderer cause I haven't experimented with either render engine much.

And here she is Rendered with Superfly.  The render took about 3 hours with medium settings. What do you think? Which looks better FireFly or SuperFly? I like them both.

And the downloadable image, which I'm not sure is a good idea to post as part of this message, is another Dawn based character with V3 and V4 clothing. This was rendered with SuperFly on high settings and took about 6 hours. It's a tribute to an old Luis Royo painting I remember.

More to come 'cause I got lots to play with...

Comments

Well, I tried Esha and Nylon Lynx and ran into problems with the skin and pantyhose. Their textures may need to be redone and I may need to change their pantyhose. Lillianne would be interesting, since she's a V3 with V3 textures. I'll try doing some portraits this month and see what happens.

Interesting... the Daz render looks good, agree with the too glossy skin comment. As for Poser, the SuperFly looks a bit better to me. Not sure if this is possible, given the Daz shortcomings you encountered, but would be curious to see a familiar character like Lillianne or AV (maybe in similar peril scenes) rendered in Daz vs. Poser to see the outcomes, knowing that Daz is the less familiar tool.
