But hey maybe because I'm trans and don't need to be educated on why it's a danger, I assume others know more than they do. Edit: There was loads of weird and dangerous behavior that guy was doing, it's not just the trans stuff they breezed over. It just wasn't intended to be that kind of video, and I think that's okay. And genuinely, feel free to educate me, but I don't see the problem with assuming people on the patreon might be a bit more knowledgeable about how deep it is vs the general public on YouTube. Like. Children and teens watch YouTube, isn't that why it's important to be more clear when on that platform? I like patreon content specifically because it's more casual and things don't have to be spelled out for the kids. Edit 2: i think Adam is correct about the context, that's why I didn't think there was any kind of big deal Last edit: baylens content is what I'm referring to as being /that deep/ when it comes to the harm done. how the boyz responded is the part that I don't think is a big deal. He made very clear that he was saying that Baylen's content "is not dangerous" in the sense that it is not deliberately advocating for policy that endangers trans people, BUT it is still harmful because, however absent-minded it is, it still "forwards problematic positions on, entertains, and trivializes" serious issues like racism and transphobia. Both he and Jarvis called out the joke for being transphobic, just as they’ve called out transphobia many other times in the past. Could they have spent less time giving Baylen the benefit of the doubt? Absolutely. But it is not “gross” and “disgusting” to criticize someone’s rhetoric while still extending them basic empathy.

On YouTube they're pretty direct about breaking down why shit is fucked up, but on patreon I think the vibes are more like, we're all adults here, we don't need to go into that. The vibes are more relaxed and about having fun. (That being said i wish the video didn't end up being all about that shitty guy, but I deeply understand getting sucked down rabbit holes.) It can just be called bad and mean and we all know why it's bad and mean. Hopefully. Like if one is such a regular viewer that they're here, they probably get it. I don't think it needs to be broken down and hand fed to us.

2024-10-06 21:20:19 +0000 UTCok first of all it’s a bit contradictory to not ask what i mean. they do not care about backlash against the way they word things, at least it VERY much seems that way when they’ve done it for most issues EXCEPT excusing transphobia. the fandom part wasn’t a- that wasn’t a point i was making and it was only an example of this fandom (literally no other word) possibly being fine with excusing more and more as they speak less on their phrasing and influence. i’m very validly mad at this because i’ve watched them for so long and thought they were the type of people to understand how they’re phrasing or over correction is harmful. stop w the pedestal talk too, nobody did that, im just saying it hurts regardless. the fact that you’re ignoring that is messed up, im not saying it’s important bc it hurt me as a person, im saying it’s important because it hurt me as a TRANS person. i KNOW what this encourages and have experienced it firsthand whether that be when i was problematic and in those groups or trans and dealing with them. like wtf y’all😒

They never condoned harm, they spoke out against it. Whether that speaking out was up to a specific, personal standard is an individual gripe, not a public offense. Also remember that they might not have seen people's objections at all- I doubt their silence on the matter is intentional, much less meant to harm you or anybody else.
