2024-07-03 01:28:24 +0000 UTCIf you care: Minneapolis and Saint Paul are the Twin Cities, both in Minnesota, and they’re the two biggest cities in Minnesota (only 10ish miles apart!) and form a HUGE metro area. The name originally refers to two settlements on opposite sides of the Mississippi: St. Anthony and Minneapolis (which later merged into one big Minneapolis) but the name stuck after the merge and started to be applied to Saint Paul and Minneapolis, as Saint Paul was the next closest city to Minneapolis (again, like a couple miles). However, they’re still VERY different cities with VERY different feels because they grew soooo independently despite being extremely close neighbors. There’s a lot of rivalry and strong opinions between the two.
