I was scared if I attended anything I'd get deported and have my re-entry barred. It's a separating feeling but any way you can participate is valuable and valid, and like Carolina said calling the systemic inequity out as someone with an audience helps.

2024-05-07 21:51:27 +0000 UTCOn the subject of voting resources, we have these "online quizzes" or maybe survey is a better word for it, where candidates have given their opinion on a scale of 1-5 on different current political issues, and then you do the same and it tells you which candidates you're agreeing with the most. Don't know if this is a thing in America. I've always found it very helpful, especially when they also give their reasons for why they have the opinions that they have. Although one time it was like: Ah yes, one of the people you agree with is [candidate from one of the racist parties], because there hadn't been any questions about immigration or something else for them to bring it up, so it'd just matched me to them based on their (supposed) other core issues of elderly care and animal welfare, which it's like: Yeah, I'll go for someone who has those values without the racism, thank you very much.

2024-05-07 17:42:23 +0000 UTCHot take probably no one is gonna agree with, but I'm fine with the new Mufasa movie solely because of the fact that the original Lion King heavily relied upon the Swahili language to the point that Disney SUCCESSFULLY trademarked Hakuna Matata, while the majority of the screenwriters, actors, and people in charge were white. I feel like this has been a persistent problem with the TLK franchise as a whole, where while the Broadway play is cast primarily black, the most recent TV show The Lion Guard was still a mostly white cast while again drawing heavily on the Swahili language (probably moreso than any other part of the franchise). The first live action film wasn't good, but it did cast all black actors for the lions, and the new prequel also has a black director (although using Lin Manuel Miranda as the lead song writer for songs that will, as usual, be written with a lot of Swahili lyrics is :/. Especially since this seems to be the first TLK film Lebo M. isn't involved in?). I don't know if Mufasa will be good, but I support the idea of the franchise no longer being helmed by white people, at the very least. The ideal though would be bringing actual Swahili speaking actors, songwriters, and directors on board.

I know you guys aren’t political commentators so I want to stress: thank you so so much for talking about Palestine and voicing your support. The fact that pro-Palestinian support is so heavily suppressed by the algorithm has lead most creators, even the ones I really liked and thought well of, to say nothing. It is isolating to feel alone in caring, so thank you. Also maybe you already know but a great way to support without speaking out to the point you risk immigration status or doxxing(totally valid fears btw) is to follow accounts like @stopcopcity, @emorystopcopcity and @saveweelaunee on instagram. Those are more specific to the fight against cop city in Atlanta but they’ll keep you updated on actions you can do privately to fight against facism and the militarization of police. Love you guys and sorry ♥️😂😂
