Pricing Change from Apple

I got this in my e-mail from Patreon.

Hi,
We’re writing to let you know that your Patreon has been updated to use Apple’s in-app purchase system. This means that all purchases of memberships and shop items through the Patreon iOS app will now include Apple’s 30% App Store fee. As a reminder, Apple’s fees do not affect your existing members. You also have the ability to choose how Apple’s fees impact your prices and earnings through the iOS app.

My understanding is basically it's better if you don't get your subscription through the Apple App Store. If you do, you have two options: Choose to pay the extra 30% on top of my $10 subscription fee so that I get the most money (Patreon still always takes a cut each month) or choose for the cut to come out of my $10 portion. I'd prefer you not do the second one, if you have to get your subscription through Apple, because if people continually do this, I will have to raise my subscription price across the board to account for Apple's cut and Patreon's cut so that I make something each month. :(

From what I understand, this also only applies to new members, not current ones. So, please be aware if you leave, you may have to pay a higher rate to come back. :( I know I initially talked about how you could leave and rejoin to change your billing cycle, but I wouldn't do that now, if your only option is through the Apple App Store.

I have Android and use Patreon on my laptop, so I'm just interpreting this the best I can for Apple iPhone users. If you interpret this differently, please make a comment below for other iPhone users.

Thanks for being here and sorry for the business-y post. Just trying to keep the price as low as possible for you per month while at the same time keeping as much of that donation as I can.

P.S. If you're a free member, what's holding you back? All the "good" stuff gets posted for my $10 members and I use the money for props, wardrobe, makeup, model fees, transportation costs, studio rentals, and other things that help me create the work I do. I know you may think $10 is not much, but it's very valuable to me and shows me you like what I do and are encouraging me to keep doing it and I use it all! Thanks to my current and past members (and all the free members who are checking out my nature photos).
